Our verdict
WPForms is the easiest serious form plugin for WordPress, and Lite covers a basic contact form for free. Budget for the full renewal price and note that Zapier, Google Sheets and fee-free payments start at Pro. Indian sellers needing Razorpay at checkout should look at another plugin.
How this score works: the DevMixa score is research-based — we compare official pricing, features, documentation, support options, security and data policies, and public user feedback against other tools in the same category. It is not a hands-on test; tools we test ourselves are marked “Tested”.
What is WPForms?
WPForms Lite is active on more than 5 million WordPress sites, and its WordPress.org page shows a 4.8-star average from roughly 14,400 ratings. That reach is why a wpforms plugin review and pricing breakdown is worth doing carefully: the free build gets people in, and the paid licences decide what those forms can actually do. This page covers the four paid tiers at their regular prices, what Lite leaves out, how payments behave for Indian businesses, and how the plugin compares with Gravity Forms and Contact Form 7.
The plugin comes from WPForms LLC, part of the Awesome Motive group, and launched in 2016. Its pitch is a drag and drop form builder that a client or a marketing hire can use without touching shortcodes or markup. You pick from more than 2,100 templates, drop fields onto a live preview and publish with a block. Small businesses chasing leads and bookings, and agencies handing sites to non-technical clients, are the people it was designed around. Developers who like writing form markup by hand often find it heavier than they need.
The WPForms Pro license price and the other three tiers
All paid plans bill yearly. The pricing page normally advertises a first-year discount, yet it also says plainly that renewals are charged at full price, so the figures below are the regular list prices to budget for. WPForms charges in US dollars and has no INR plan, so the rupee cost moves with the exchange rate, and your card's forex charge and GST sit on top.
| Plan | Regular price | Sites | What it adds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | $99/yr | 1 | Saved entries, conditional logic, file uploads, multi-page forms, form analytics |
| Plus | $199/yr | 3 | Mailchimp, Constant Contact, Brevo, AWeber, Kit and other email tools, Slack, Notion |
| Pro | $399/yr | 5 | No WPForms payment fee, Zapier, Google Sheets, surveys, signatures, user registration, coupons |
| Elite | $599/yr | Unlimited | HubSpot, Salesforce, ActiveCampaign, webhooks, Authorize.Net, multisite |
The step that catches buyers out is Basic to Pro. Basic looks cheap, but it has no Zapier, no Google Sheets, no email marketing integrations, and it still carries the 3% WPForms fee on Stripe, PayPal and Square payments. If you sell anything through your forms, the WPForms Pro license price of $399 a year is the realistic starting point, because Pro is where that platform fee goes away for active licence holders. The terms of service give a 14-day refund window on new purchases. Renewals are not refundable, and subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel from your account.
WPForms Lite free version limits: no saved entries and a 3% fee
Lite is perfectly usable for one contact form. It includes the full builder, the template library, email notifications, a GDPR agreement field and spam checks through reCAPTCHA, hCaptcha, Cloudflare Turnstile and Akismet. The gaps appear once a form becomes part of a business process:
- Submissions are not stored in your dashboard. Lite emails them to you, and an opt-in feature called Lite Connect backs up each entry, encrypted, on WPForms servers. You can restore those entries only after buying a licence.
- Each backed-up entry expires a year after it was saved, and nothing submitted before you switched Lite Connect on is kept.
- You get one notification per form, so sales and support cannot receive separate emails.
- No conditional logic, no file upload field and no page breaks for multi-page forms.
- Stripe, PayPal and Square payments do work, with a 3% WPForms fee added on top of the processor's own charges.
- Help comes through the WordPress.org forum, where WPForms says replies usually take one to three business days.
For a blog or portfolio, none of that hurts. For a lead form feeding a sales team, the missing entry log is the real reason to pay. Email is not a database, and one mail failure means one lost enquiry.
Building a contact form in WPForms in about five minutes
Install and activate the free plugin. Open WPForms » Add New, name the form, hover over the Simple Contact Form template and click Use Template. Name, email and message fields arrive already placed. Click any field in the preview to change its label and other options, or drag new fields in from the left panel. Then open Settings, confirm who receives the notification, and edit the confirmation message. Save, then press Embed and let the wizard place the form on a page or post.
Send yourself a test submission before going live. If it never lands, read the email section further down before blaming the plugin.
WPForms conditional logic and payments, and the Razorpay question
Conditional logic starts at Basic. It shows or hides fields based on earlier answers, say revealing a GST number box only when someone ticks "Business purchase". It can also route notifications, so refund requests reach accounts while pre-sales questions go to the sales inbox. Pair it with page breaks and long multi-page forms stop overwhelming mobile visitors.
On the payment side, the official addon list covers Stripe, PayPal Commerce, Square, Mercado Pago, Paystack and, on Elite only, Authorize.Net. The pricing page groups recurring subscriptions, coupons and calculations under Pro, and WPForms Stripe payments on Pro or Elite carry no platform fee.
There is no Razorpay addon. Neither the addon catalogue nor the pricing page mentions it. Indian businesses that need UPI or Razorpay checkout have two realistic routes. One is an automation service: Zoho Flow lists a WPForms and Razorpay connection, where a new form entry can start a Razorpay action such as creating an order or invoice. The other is a form plugin with native support. Fluent Forms, for example, documents a built-in Razorpay payment method (check its free vs Pro comparison for which edition includes it).
WPForms vs Gravity Forms, with Contact Form 7 as the free baseline
| Point | WPForms | Gravity Forms | Contact Form 7 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free version | Lite, 5M+ installs | None, no trial | Fully free, 10M+ installs |
| Cheapest paid licence | $99/yr, 1 site | $59/yr, 1 site | No paid tier |
| Stripe and PayPal | All tiers, 3% fee below Pro | Pro ($159/yr) and up | Stripe built in |
| Mailchimp | Plus ($199/yr) | Basic ($59/yr) | Not built in |
| Zapier | Pro ($399/yr) | Pro ($159/yr) | Not built in |
| User registration | Pro ($399/yr) | Elite ($259/yr) | Not built in |
| Unlimited sites | Elite ($599/yr) | Elite ($259/yr) | Free |
Gravity Forms is cheaper at nearly every level. Its Pro licence gives three sites with Stripe, PayPal and Zapier for $159, while getting Zapier from WPForms means the $399 Pro tier. What Gravity Forms lacks is any free tier: its pricing page offers an online demo instead of a trial. WPForms wins on the builder and on onboarding, which counts when a client will edit forms without you. If you are comfortable with a denser interface and care about renewal costs, Gravity Forms is the better value. Contact Form 7 costs nothing and handles plain enquiry forms well, but saving submissions needs the separate Flamingo plugin and fields are written as form tags rather than dragged into place.
GDPR switches and where Lite entries actually go
WPForms includes a GDPR Enhancements option under WPForms » Settings » General, on by default for new installs. It stops the plugin setting its user-ID cookie and stops it storing a submitter's IP address and browser details, either site-wide or form by form. You can also disable entry storage for a single form and add the GDPR Agreement checkbox, which is always required and never pre-ticked. These controls exist in Lite as well. None of this makes a site compliant by itself, and the WPForms documentation recommends getting legal advice for your own setup.
Two data flows deserve a read of the privacy policy. Paid licences are opted into usage tracking by default (licence type, form and entry counts, active plugins, server versions, but not API keys). Lite Connect, if enabled, sends encrypted entry copies to WPForms servers, and Lite users must opt in to both. Sites that collect health or financial details should keep Lite Connect off and hold WPForms entries locally on a paid plan. The plugin is licensed under GPL v2 or later, so using it on client and commercial sites is allowed.
Why WPForms notification emails go missing
Most "form not sending" complaints turn out to be WordPress mail problems rather than plugin bugs. Plenty of hosts handle PHP's default mail function badly, so messages get filtered or silently dropped. The official troubleshooting guide boils down to a short checklist:
- Check the notification is switched on and its badge reads Active in the form builder.
- Use a single From Email on your own domain, different from the Send To address. A Gmail address in that field invites spam filtering.
- Make sure any Smart Tag used as the recipient points at the right field, and that a conditional rule is not blocking the email.
- Install an SMTP plugin such as WP Mail SMTP, connect a real mail provider and turn on Force From Email.
- Turn off Optimize Email Sending if mail is arriving late, because it queues messages in the background.
On Lite, a failed email means the submission is gone unless Lite Connect was running. That alone justifies Basic on any site where enquiries carry money.
Where this wpforms plugin review and pricing check lands for Indian buyers
Pay for WPForms if non-technical people will build forms, if you want entries and conditional logic without code, and if a polished editor matters more to you than the lowest renewal bill. Basic suits a single business site that just needs a proper lead log. Agencies should look hard at Pro or Elite, since Zapier, Google Sheets and fee-free payments live there. Skip it if your forms are three fields and a submit button, if you need Razorpay at checkout, or if a tight budget points you towards Gravity Forms.
A sensible route is to install the free version, build your real forms, decide whether Lite Connect fits your data policy, and set up SMTP on day one. Once you know which integration you need (the Mailchimp integration sits in Plus, the Zapier addon and user registration in Pro), buy that tier instead of the cheapest one, and plan around the renewal price rather than the first-year offer. The 14-day refund window leaves enough time to confirm the addon works with your stack.

WPForms FAQ
What is WPForms?
WPForms is a drag-and-drop form builder plugin for WordPress made by WPForms LLC and launched in 2016. The free Lite version has more than 5 million active installs on WordPress.org. Paid licences add saved entries, conditional logic, file uploads, fee-free payments and marketing integrations.
How much does WPForms Pro cost?
At the regular renewal price, WPForms Pro costs $399 a year and covers five sites, billed in US dollars. The pricing page often shows a first-year discount, but it states that renewals are charged at full price. Basic is $99, Plus $199 and Elite $599 a year.
Is WPForms Lite free?
Yes. WPForms Lite is free on WordPress.org and includes the builder, 2,100+ templates, email notifications and spam protection. It does not save entries in your dashboard, has no conditional logic or file uploads, and adds a 3% fee to Stripe, PayPal and Square payments.
How do you create a contact form with WPForms?
Go to WPForms » Add New, name the form and choose the Simple Contact Form template. Edit the fields in the preview, check notifications and confirmations under Settings, then save. Click Embed and the wizard places the form on a page or post.
Is WPForms GDPR compliant?
WPForms gives you GDPR tools in both Lite and paid versions: a setting that disables user cookies and IP or user-agent storage, per-form control over entry storage, and a required GDPR Agreement checkbox. Compliance depends on how you set up and use your forms, and WPForms' own docs advise getting legal advice for your case.
WPForms vs Contact Form 7: which is better?
Contact Form 7 is completely free with more than 10 million installs, but fields are written as text tags and saving entries needs the separate Flamingo plugin. WPForms has a visual builder and stores entries on paid plans from $99 a year. Contact Form 7 suits simple forms on a zero budget, WPForms suits sites where non-developers manage forms.
Does WPForms support Razorpay?
No. WPForms has no Razorpay addon; its payment addons cover Stripe, PayPal, Square, Mercado Pago, Paystack and Authorize.Net. You can connect the two through Zoho Flow, which lists a WPForms entry trigger alongside Razorpay actions, or use a plugin such as Fluent Forms that has a built-in Razorpay payment method.
What are the best free WPForms alternatives?
Contact Form 7 is the best-known free option and has no paid tier at all. WPForms Lite itself may be enough if you only need a basic contact form. Hosted builders such as Tally and Google Forms have free plans and can be embedded in WordPress, though entries then live outside your site.
Why are WPForms emails not sending?
Usually the host's default PHP mail function is failing, or the From Email uses a domain other than your site's. Set a From address on your own domain, confirm the notification is active and the recipient Smart Tags are correct, then install an SMTP plugin such as WP Mail SMTP with Force From Email switched on.
Who should use WPForms?
WPForms suits small businesses, marketers and agencies who want non-technical staff to build forms visually, with entries, conditional logic and payments in one plugin. Developers watching renewal costs or building complex data workflows may prefer Gravity Forms. Anyone who needs native Razorpay checkout should look at another plugin.
