Our verdict

3.8out of 5

Jetpack is a sensible pick if you want backups, security, stats and social sharing from one company and are happy to connect to WordPress.com. Use the free plan first, add VaultPress Backup or Security only for what your host lacks, and budget for the regular rates shown here, since those apply at every renewal.

What is Jetpack?

Jetpack's free tier hands you 20 AI requests, one hosted video and a 20-event activity log, then asks for money the moment you want automatic backups or malware scans. That split explains most of what follows in this jetpack wordpress plugin review and pricing guide. Automattic, the company behind WordPress.com and WooCommerce, has shipped Jetpack since March 2011, and version 16.3.1 (its changelog entry is dated 12 October 2026) runs on more than 3 million WordPress installs according to its WordPress.org listing.

The plugin is a bridge. It links a self-hosted WordPress site to Automattic's cloud, and that cloud then does the heavy work: storing backups off your server, counting visits, serving images from a CDN, posting to social networks and running search. Because the services live on WordPress.com, the plugin cannot do anything useful until it is connected to a WordPress.com account (your normal wp-admin login does not count).

Who gets real value from bundling everything into one plugin

The best match is a small business or blogger who would otherwise install five or six separate tools and pay for three of them. Jetpack covers backup, security, speed, stats, newsletters and social sharing from one dashboard, billed by one company.

It suits people less well if they run on a managed host that already includes daily backups and a firewall, or if they dislike sending site data to an outside service. Developers who want fine control over each layer usually prefer separate specialist plugins.

Jetpack plans and pricing at renewal rates

The table lists the regular rates, which are also what every renewal costs. Each is quoted per month but billed once a year. Bundle prices come from the pricing page; the Backup and Boost figures come from their own product pages. Jetpack publishes these in US dollars only.

PlanRegular priceMain inclusions
Free$0Brute-force protection, image CDN, basic stats, 20 AI requests
VaultPress Backup$9.95/mo ($119.40/yr)Real-time cloud backups, 10GB to start
Security$19.95/mo ($239.40/yr)Backup (10GB), malware scanning, firewall, spam filtering (10k API calls/mo), 30-day activity log
Growth$19.95/mo ($239.40/yr)Paid Stats and Social, WordAds, paywalls and newsletters, 2% transaction fee
Boost$19.95/mo ($239.40/yr)Automated critical CSS, performance history, image quality control
Complete$49.95/mo ($599.40/yr)1TB backup, 1TB VideoPress, Scan, 100k Stats views, Social Advanced, Search, AI, CRM Entrepreneur

Extra backup space is sold monthly as add-ons: $2.95 for 10GB, $5.95 for 100GB and $9.95 for 1TB, and that rate does not change at renewal. Yearly plans carry a 14-day refund window and monthly ones 7 days. Jetpack also says it offers no multi-year terms. The paid Stats product had a promotional figure on its product page but no stated renewal price when we checked, so confirm that one at checkout.

Jetpack free plan features that are actually usable

Several free pieces hold up on a live site. Brute-force login protection blocks password-guessing bots. The image CDN (still titled Site Accelerator in Jetpack's support docs, and called Photon years ago) serves your images from Jetpack's servers, plus the CSS and JavaScript that ship with WordPress core, Jetpack and WooCommerce; theme and plugin files stay on your host. The pricing page pairs it with lazy loading. Related posts appear under articles without extra plugins, social auto-sharing to connected networks is unlimited, and a basic SEO tools module is included.

The ceilings arrive fast. You get a firewall with manual rules only, no automated backups, no malware scanning and no Akismet spam filtering. Search covers 5,000 records and 500 requests a month. Subscriber import stops at 100, paid newsletter revenue loses a 10% fee, and help is limited to community forums. Free Stats is where Jetpack's own pages disagree. The pricing table marks it for personal sites only, with no commercial use, while the Stats support page says the free version works for any type of site and any amount of traffic. If your blog sells anything, ask support which rule applies before relying on it.

Jetpack Stats and backup: what VaultPress brings to the table

Stats is the module most people install Jetpack for. Its support page, updated in September 2026, lists views, visitors, top posts, referrers, clicks, search terms, authors, downloads, video plays, subscribers and country-level locations in the free version. Paid tiers add UTM tracking, device data and city or region locations. Paid tiers are priced by monthly views (10k, 100k, 250k, 500k and 1M), and the two busiest days each month do not count toward the limit, which helps if one post goes viral. Growth includes 10k views and Complete 100k.

VaultPress was once a separate Automattic backup service; the product is now sold as Jetpack VaultPress Backup. It saves every change in real time, stores copies off your server and lets you restore with one click. The 10GB plan lets you pick retention of 7, 30 or 120 days or a full year. When storage fills, the oldest copies are removed first, and if even your minimum window will not fit, new backups pause until space frees up. A WooCommerce store taking daily orders will feel this, so check media size before choosing 10GB.

Speed questions: Boost, the CDN and plugin weight

Does Jetpack slow a site down? It loads more code than a single-purpose plugin, and its 3.7 average on WordPress.org includes 584 one-star ratings out of roughly 2,400, so complaints are not rare. The counterweight is that some modules cut load time. Jetpack Boost's free version adds page caching, deferred JavaScript, combined CSS and JS files and an image guide; the paid version regenerates critical CSS automatically as your theme changes. Offloading images to the CDN also reduces work on cheap shared hosting.

The practical rule is to switch off modules you do not use. Automattic also publishes standalone plugins (VaultPress Backup, Social and Boost among them) if you want one feature without the full package.

Jetpack vs Yoast SEO for search rankings

These two are often compared because both appear in the setup list of a new blog. They do different jobs. Yoast is a dedicated SEO plugin: its free version gives SEO and readability analysis, schema, breadcrumbs, XML sitemaps and one focus keyphrase, and Yoast SEO Premium costs $118.80 a year for one site. Jetpack's SEO tools are a small extra inside a much wider package and do not try to grade your content against a keyphrase.

Most sites can run both. Yoast even lists Jetpack among its integrations. If ranking is the main goal, put Yoast or Rank Math in charge of SEO and use Jetpack for stats, backups and social sharing.

Where Jetpack and Wordfence overlap on security

Wordfence runs its firewall and malware scanner inside your WordPress install, while Jetpack Scan does its checks from Automattic's cloud. The free Wordfence plugin includes a firewall, a malware scanner and two-factor login, but its WordPress.org page says firewall rules and malware signatures reach free users 30 days late. Wordfence's plans page lists Premium at $149 a year per site, with Care at $590 and Response at $1,250. Free Jetpack has no automated scanning at all, so on a zero budget Wordfence protects more. With money to spend, the Jetpack Security bundle earns its price because it adds off-site backups, which Wordfence does not sell.

Paying from India without a rupee rate card

Jetpack's homepage has a language picker but no currency selector, and we found no official INR price list. Indian buyers see dollar amounts, so a card payment goes through as an international transaction and your bank may add a forex markup. Check the final checkout total, including taxes, before paying. Because there is no multi-year option, plan your budget around the regular rates in the table, since those are what each renewal charges.

Connecting to WordPress.com and fixing connection errors

After installing from Plugins, open Jetpack, then My Jetpack, and press the connect button on that screen. You will be sent to log in or create a free WordPress.com account and approve the link. If it fails, Jetpack's troubleshooting guide suggests this order:

  • Check automatticstatus.com for an outage.
  • Paste your URL into the Jetpack Debug Tool and look for "Everything looks great!".
  • Open yourdomain/xmlrpc.php; it must say the server accepts POST requests only. A 404 usually means the host blocks it.
  • Ask your host, or check your security plugin, so that requests from WordPress.com are allowed through.
  • Match the WordPress Address and Site Address under Settings, both on https, with http redirecting to https.
  • Disconnect from My Jetpack and reconnect.

The AI, CRM and social extras: useful or filler?

Jetpack AI, used through the AI Assistant block, works inside the block editor for drafting, rewording and titles. The free allowance of 20 requests is a sample rather than a working quota; Complete is the plan that raises it to what the pricing page calls high capacity. Jetpack CRM is a free plugin for contacts and invoices, and Complete includes its Entrepreneur tier. Jetpack Social shares posts to connected networks for free, while the Advanced tier in Complete adds more tools.

Privacy and data handling to read before you connect

Jetpack falls under Automattic's privacy policy (last modified August 2026), which says the company never directly sells personal information for money but that some ad and analytics sharing may count as a "sale" under certain US state laws, with an opt-out link. Data your site collects about its own visitors is covered by a separate Automattic privacy notice. Stats and Akismet send visitor data to Automattic servers, so mention them in your cookie and privacy notice; Jetpack includes a cookie consent banner block for that.

Alternatives worth pricing against

Before you pay for a bundle, compare it with a do-it-yourself stack: UpdraftPlus for backups, Wordfence for firewall and scanning, Yoast or Rank Math for SEO, and Site Kit by Google or Google Analytics 4 for traffic. That route can cost nothing, but you manage four vendors and four update cycles. If your host already does daily backups, much of Jetpack Security repeats what you pay for.

Our verdict on this jetpack wordpress plugin review and pricing

Jetpack makes most sense for owners who value one bill and one dashboard over squeezing out every rupee. Start with the free plugin, keep Stats, the CDN and login protection on, and turn off the rest. Add VaultPress Backup at $9.95 a month if you have no host-level backups, and move to Security only when you also want scanning and spam filtering. Complete at $49.95 a month pays off mainly for publishers using video, search and paid newsletters together.

Jetpack FAQ

What is Jetpack for WordPress?

Jetpack is a plugin from Automattic, launched in 2011, that connects a self-hosted WordPress site to WordPress.com's cloud. It adds stats, backups, security scanning, an image CDN, social sharing, newsletters, search and AI writing help. Basic features are free and the rest are paid products or bundles.

How much does Jetpack cost?

At regular rates, VaultPress Backup is $9.95 a month, Security, Growth and Boost are $19.95 each, and Complete is $49.95, all billed yearly. These regular rates are what renewals cost. Extra backup storage starts at $2.95 a month for 10GB.

What is free in Jetpack?

The free plan includes brute-force login protection, an image CDN with lazy loading, basic stats, related posts, unlimited social auto-shares, a 20-event activity log and 20 AI requests. It also gives one VideoPress video and a limited site search. The pricing page limits free Stats to personal sites, though the Stats help page says any site can use it. Automated backups, malware scanning and spam filtering need a paid plan.

How do I connect Jetpack to WordPress.com?

Install the plugin, open Jetpack then My Jetpack in wp-admin and press the connect button. Log in to an existing WordPress.com account or create a free one, then approve the connection. Jetpack cannot work without this link because its services run on WordPress.com.

Does Jetpack slow down WordPress?

It loads more code than a single-feature plugin, and some reviewers report conflicts after updates. Switching off unused modules keeps it lean, and the image CDN plus Boost's caching and deferred JavaScript can improve load times. If you only need one feature, Automattic's standalone plugins are lighter.

Jetpack vs Wordfence: which is better for security?

Free Wordfence offers a firewall, malware scanner and two-factor login, though free rules and signatures arrive 30 days late. Free Jetpack has brute-force protection but no automated scanning. Paid Jetpack Security ($19.95 a month, billed yearly) adds off-site backups, while Wordfence Premium is listed at $149 a year.

Is Jetpack available in India with INR payment?

Jetpack sells to India, but its site lists prices only in US dollars and has no currency selector or INR rate card. Indian cards are charged as international payments, so expect a possible bank forex markup. Check the checkout total, with taxes, before you pay.

What are the best Jetpack alternatives?

A common replacement stack is UpdraftPlus for backups, Wordfence for security, Yoast or Rank Math for SEO and Site Kit by Google for stats. Each piece has a free version, but you manage several vendors instead of one. Many managed hosts also include backups that overlap with Jetpack's.

How do I fix a Jetpack connection error?

Check automatticstatus.com for an outage, then run your URL through the Jetpack Debug Tool. Make sure yourdomain/xmlrpc.php loads and is not blocked by your host or a security plugin, and that both site URLs in Settings match on https. Disconnecting and reconnecting from My Jetpack fixes many cases.

Is Jetpack worth it?

It is worth paying for if you want backups, security, stats and social sharing from one vendor and one dashboard, and your host does not already provide backups and a firewall. Start with the free plan, then add VaultPress Backup at $9.95 a month or Security at $19.95 a month only for what you are missing. Developers who prefer separate specialist plugins may get more control elsewhere.
