Our verdict
Wistia is worth paying for when your videos live on your own site and each viewer could become a lead, thanks to in-player forms, heatmaps and tight HubSpot sync. If you mostly want reach or cheap storage, YouTube or a lower-cost host is the better buy, and free users should watch the 200 GB bandwidth cap closely.
How this score works: the DevMixa score is research-based — we compare official pricing, features, documentation, support options, security and data policies, and public user feedback against other tools in the same category. It is not a hands-on test; tools we test ourselves are marked “Tested”.
What is Wistia?
Wistia's older Plus, Pro and Advanced plans are no longer on its pricing page, which means many comparisons still circulating online quote tiers a new customer cannot buy. This wistia pricing and video marketing features review works from the current official pricing page and Wistia's own help centre, so the numbers below reflect the plans you can actually buy today: a Free tier, Business at $79 a month on annual billing, Business + Signals at $329 a month, and custom Enterprise deals. If you sell B2B software, run a SaaS onboarding funnel or produce client videos as an agency, this is the page to read before you enter card details.
Business at $79 a month and the four plans you can buy now
The pricing page now shows four columns. Annual billing carries a "Save 20%" label, and only the annual figures are printed for Business and Business + Signals, so expect to pay more if you choose month-to-month (check the toggle on the official page for the exact amount). Here is how the tiers compare on the limits that matter:
| Plan | Price (billed annually) | Storage | Bandwidth | Users | Credits |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 25 GB | 200 GB | 1 | 3,000+ lifetime |
| Business | $79/mo | 250 GB+ | 1 TB | 3+ ($25 per extra user) | 5,000+ per month |
| Business + Signals | $329/mo | 250 GB+ | 1 TB | 3+ ($25 per extra user) | 5,000+ per month |
| Enterprise | Custom | From 1 TB | 2 TB | Custom | 12,500+ per month |
According to the pricing table, every tier, Free included, gets the virtual recording studio, transcript-based and agentic editing, and AI highlight clips for social posts. What Business adds is the marketing layer: removal of Wistia branding, collections, channels and playlists, heatmaps, A/B testing, CSV export, in-video CTAs and forms, and live chat support. Dubbing and AI audio descriptions are paid add-ons on Business and come bundled only with Enterprise. One thing the page does not do is define credits, so you cannot easily tell how far 5,000 a month will stretch. Ask sales before you rely on credit-heavy AI features.
Wistia free plan limits: 25 GB, 200 GB bandwidth and a hard stop
The free account suits a founder who wants a clean, ad-free player for a homepage explainer and a couple of demo clips. You get one seat, 25 GB of storage, 200 GB of monthly bandwidth, basic analytics and one motion kit. Wistia branding stays on the player, and channels, heatmaps and forms are not part of the free column.
The bandwidth ceiling is the real constraint. According to Wistia's bandwidth article, a free account cannot buy more and cannot run into overage charges. Once the monthly allowance is gone, the account owner receives an email, embeds keep working for a few days, and then playback stops with a message telling viewers when the video will return. Upgrading restores playback immediately; otherwise you wait for the next billing month. For a landing page that suddenly gets traction from a product launch, that is a risky place to be.
Bandwidth is the bill that surprises people
Paid plans never cut viewers off. Instead, usage above your included amount is billed as overage on the monthly billing date, and Wistia's help article does not give a per-GB rate. Business customers can also add bandwidth in advance: an extra 1 TB costs $150 a month, 2 TB is $280 and 3 TB is $390, on top of the plan's own 1 TB.
Plays are not the only thing counted. Player loads, thumbnails, internal views by your own team and downloads all draw from the same pool. Autoplay deserves special care, since an autoplaying hero video or animated thumbnail consumes data before anyone presses play. On a high-traffic homepage, switching autoplay off and relying on Smart Encoding (Wistia serves a standard-definition version where it judges that sufficient) can help keep a Business account inside 1 TB.
Forms, the new name for Turnstile email capture
Long-time users will remember Turnstile email capture, the gate that asked for an email address before or during a video. The old Turnstile help article address now opens a page titled Wistia Forms, and that is the name the feature goes by today. A form can pause the video at a chosen timestamp or appear on hover while playback continues. A toggle decides whether viewers may skip it; switch it off and they must submit to keep watching. Viewers who have already filled one in are not asked again.
Custom fields can sync to HubSpot, Marketo, Pardot, Klaviyo, ActiveCampaign and Eloqua, which is where the CRM integration story becomes useful. Forms cannot be attached to audio files, and only account owners or managers can open the Integrations page. Pair a form with an end-screen call to action pointing to a demo booking link and a single product video starts behaving like a landing page.
Wistia vs YouTube for lead generation
YouTube costs nothing to host on and brings discovery through search and recommendations, which no paid host can match. The trade-off shows up the moment you embed a YouTube video on your own pricing page: the player can surface other videos, viewers can click away to YouTube, and you cannot put an email form inside it.
Wistia flips those priorities. There are no ads, the player belongs to your brand on paid plans, and every view can be tied to a named contact once a form is submitted. A practical split many marketers use is YouTube for top-of-funnel reach and Wistia for videos on your own site, product tours and gated content where each viewer is a potential lead.
Wistia vs Vimeo for a marketing team
Vimeo is the closer rival because both are paid, ad-free hosts with privacy controls and webinar products. Vimeo prices by seat: Starter is $12 per seat a month with 2 TB of storage, Standard is $25 per seat with 5 seats, 4 TB and lead capture, and Advanced is $75 per seat with 10 seats, 7 TB and live events. Its plan cards do not say whether those are annual or month-to-month rates, so check the toggle before comparing totals.
On storage alone Vimeo gives far more for the money, since Wistia Business starts at 250 GB. Wistia's case rests on B2B marketing depth: in-player forms, viewer-level analytics that land on contact records, Signals lead scoring and automatic JSON-LD for search. Pick Vimeo for a large company-wide library or portfolio, and pick Wistia when each video has a pipeline target attached to it.
What happened to the Wistia Soapbox screen recorder
Soapbox was Wistia's Chrome extension for quick webcam-plus-screen videos, popular with sales reps sending personal follow-ups. Wistia retired it on 1 September 2024 and stopped renewing its plans. Old Soapbox links no longer play, and any recording that was not exported to Wistia or downloaded before September 2024 cannot be recovered, even by support.
The replacement is the Record feature built into the main Wistia app. It handles webcam and screen capture, multiple layouts and editing, and the pricing page lists the virtual recording studio on every plan, including Free. If a teammate still has a Soapbox bookmark, update it to the in-app recorder.
Heatmaps, channels and video SEO on the Business tier
Heatmaps show, second by second, where an individual viewer rewatched or dropped off, which is far more actionable than a single average-view-duration figure. Channels let you publish a branded, Netflix-style hub of episodes for a podcast or customer-education series without building pages yourself. Both sit behind the Business plan.
Video SEO is handled at the embed level. Wistia's media SEO article says a standard inline embed automatically injects a JSON-LD block containing the title, description, transcript, thumbnail, duration and upload date into your page head, so Google can read a VideoObject without a separate sitemap. Wistia also generates transcripts for all accounts at no extra cost, and newer LLM-friendly embeds include the same metadata by default. Run Google's Rich Results Test after publishing to confirm it is picked up.
Webinars, Signals and the HubSpot integration
Wistia sells webinars separately from the core plans; the Webinars tab on the pricing page carries its own quotes. Two independent pricing write-ups dated June 2026 (Gumlet and Hackceleration) reported a starting figure of about $350 a month; Wistia does not print it, so treat it as reported and confirm with sales before budgeting. The official page does state that Signals, the lead scoring and attribution layer, is included with every webinar plan.
HubSpot gets the most attention in Wistia's help centre, with separate articles on connecting webinar registration to HubSpot, automating registration through HubSpot forms and sending webinar attendance data back. Read those before you build your first event, because the registration setup you pick shapes what lands on each contact record. Signals also connects to Marketo, Pardot, ActiveCampaign, Eloqua and Klaviyo.
Reading this wistia pricing and video marketing features review as an Indian buyer
Wistia publishes no rupee price, so plans are charged in USD and your card issuer applies its own conversion and forex fees. For a three-person team, the $79 annual Business rate works out to $948 a year before any extra users, add-ons or bandwidth. That is a meaningful line item for an early-stage startup, and it only pays back if you actually use forms, heatmaps and the CRM sync. If you only need an ad-free player, the free tier or a cheaper host may be enough.
Privacy mode, SOC 2 and cookie-free playback
Wistia's security page lists SOC 2 Type 1 and Type 2, GDPR, CCPA and the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, with a Data Processing Addendum available from its Trust Center. Since January 2020 the player has used localStorage rather than tracking cookies, apart from A/B tests and marketing integrations. A privacy mode masks viewer IP addresses and switches off session tracking for videos and channels (webinars are not covered), which helps when a European audience lands on your pages. Deleted media is purged within 30 days, and uptime history sits on status.wistia.com. The page does not say whether customer content is used for AI training, so check the Trust Center if that matters to you.
Gaps to weigh: vague credits, hidden overage rates, no INR billing
- The per-GB overage rate is not published, so a traffic spike is hard to forecast.
- Credits appear on every plan but are not explained on the pricing page.
- Monthly-billed prices are not printed alongside the annual figures.
- Webinar pricing needs a separate quote, and Signals at $329 is a large jump from $79.
A sensible first week on Wistia
Start on Free, upload your highest-traffic explainer and embed it with the standard inline code so SEO metadata is injected. Watch the bandwidth meter for a week, keeping autoplay off. If the numbers look healthy, start the Business trial (no credit card is needed), add a skippable form at the 30-second mark, connect HubSpot or your CRM, and compare heatmaps for viewers who submitted against those who skipped. That one test will tell you whether the upgrade earns its keep.

Wistia FAQ
What is Wistia?
Wistia is a video hosting and marketing platform from Wistia, Inc., founded in 2006 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. It gives businesses an ad-free player, in-video lead forms, viewer analytics, a built-in recorder, webinars and CRM syncing. It is aimed mainly at B2B marketers and SaaS teams.
Is Wistia free?
Yes, there is a Free plan with 1 user, 25 GB storage and 200 GB of monthly bandwidth. Wistia branding stays on the player, and forms, channels and heatmaps are reserved for paid plans. If the free bandwidth runs out, embeds stop playing after a few days until the next month or an upgrade.
How much does Wistia cost?
The official pricing page lists Business at $79 a month and Business + Signals at $329 a month, both billed annually, with extra users at $25 each. Monthly billing costs more, since annual is marked as saving 20%. Enterprise is custom priced, and there is no INR price.
Wistia vs Vimeo: which is better?
Wistia suits B2B marketing teams that want lead forms, contact-level analytics and HubSpot webinar data. Vimeo charges per seat (Starter $12, Standard $25, Advanced $75 a month) and gives much more storage, so it suits creators, agencies and big internal libraries. Choose based on whether your videos feed a sales pipeline or mainly need to be stored and shown.
How do you add email capture to a Wistia video?
Use Wistia Forms, the feature formerly known as Turnstile, on a Business plan. Set it to pause at a timestamp or appear on hover, decide whether viewers can skip, and map fields to HubSpot, Marketo, Pardot, Klaviyo, ActiveCampaign or Eloqua. Forms cannot be added to audio files.
What is Wistia Soapbox?
Soapbox was Wistia's Chrome extension for recording screen and webcam videos. It was retired on 1 September 2024, and recordings not exported or downloaded by then cannot be recovered. Its replacement is the Record feature inside the Wistia app, and the pricing page lists the recording studio on every current plan, Free included.
Wistia vs YouTube for business: which should you use?
YouTube is free and brings search and recommendation traffic, but shows other videos and cannot gate content with a form. Wistia is ad-free, keeps viewers on your site and ties views to leads. Many companies use YouTube for reach and Wistia for videos embedded on their own pages.
Does Wistia integrate with HubSpot?
Yes. Wistia Forms can sync fields to HubSpot, and Signals lists HubSpot among its integrations. Wistia's help centre also documents connecting webinar registration to HubSpot, using HubSpot forms for registration and passing attendance data back to contacts.
What are the best Wistia alternatives?
Vimeo is the main paid alternative, with per-seat plans from $12 a month, more storage and live events on its Advanced tier. YouTube is the free option when reach matters more than lead capture. Developer-focused hosts such as Gumlet compete on lower storage and bandwidth costs.
Who should use Wistia?
Wistia fits B2B SaaS companies, marketing teams and agencies that use video to generate and qualify leads and already run HubSpot, Marketo or a similar platform. Solo creators who mainly want views, or teams needing only cheap storage, will get better value elsewhere.
