Our verdict

3.1out of 5

Weebly still works and its $15 Professional plan looks cheap for an ad-free site with a domain. But Square is shrinking it, Square payments don't cover India, and new Indian businesses will get more from Wix or WordPress. Existing users can stay for now with a current backup.

How this score works: the DevMixa score is research-based — we compare official pricing, features, documentation, support options, security and data policies, and public user feedback against other tools in the same category. It is not a hands-on test; tools we test ourselves are marked “Tested”.

What is Weebly?

Weebly had a rough 2026. In June, Weebly (owned by Square) began telling customers in 67 countries that their sites would be switched off, and the marketing pages on weebly.com still carry a 2019 copyright line. India is not on that shutdown list, so the real question for an Indian founder is narrower: is a builder its parent company is visibly scaling back worth starting on now? This Weebly website builder review and pricing guide answers that from Weebly's own pricing page, Square's help centre and dated news reports, not from hands-on claims.

Some background first. Weebly was founded by David Rusenko, Chris Fanini and Dan Veltri in the mid-2000s (Wikipedia dates the first beta to 2006, while TechCrunch's 2018 report says 2007), and it was among the early hosted editors that people without coding skills could actually use. Square announced the purchase in April 2018 at about $365 million in cash and stock. You pick a theme, drop blocks of text, images, galleries, forms and products onto the page, and publish; hosting and SSL are handled for you. Since the acquisition, the store side runs on Square's catalogue, gift cards and checkout. Square's newer website product, Square Online, is where the company's own setup guides now send sellers, which tells you where the investment is going.

What changed at Weebly in 2026, and where India stands

Two reports, Khaleej Times (5 July 2026) and a Network Solutions help article, give the same timeline for the affected countries. Live sites were unpublished on 27 September 2026, and account logins end on 26 December 2026. Weebly's own notice sits on a help centre page that would not load for us, so treat these dates as reported rather than officially confirmed. The list covers Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and more than fifty others.

According to both reports, India, the US, the UK, Canada and Australia are not on it. The homepage still shows Sign Up and Create Your Website buttons, and no official page we checked restricts new Indian accounts. So yes, you can use Weebly in India today. Two catches, though. The homepage language menu offers 23 regional and language versions, none of them for India, so you pay in US dollars. And if your clients or branch offices sit in one of those 67 countries (a Dubai distributor, a Singapore team), they can no longer run a Weebly site at all.

Weebly pricing plans, in dollars and rough rupees

Four tiers appear on the official pricing page. Rupee figures below are approx. conversions at ≈₹94.7 per USD on the yearly rate, before forex markup or GST on your card.

PlanBilled yearlyMonth-to-monthApprox. INR (yearly rate)What the grid adds (columns inferred)
Free$0$0₹0SSL, embed code, shopping cart with unlimited items, coupons, SEO, lead capture
Personal$13/mo$16/mo≈₹1,231/mo approx.Connect your own domain, digital goods, shipping calculator and labels, pop-ups
Professional$15/mo$20/mo≈₹1,421/mo approx.Unlimited storage, free domain, advanced site stats, Square ads removed
Performance$32/mo$36/mo≈₹3,030/mo approx.PayPal checkout, item reviews, abandoned cart emails, ecommerce insights, priority support

How much does Weebly cost in practice? Yearly billing is paid up front, so Personal is $156 (≈₹14,773 approx.) for the year and Professional is $180 (≈₹17,046 approx.). The ticks on the pricing grid don't come through with plan labels, so the Professional and Performance rows above are worked out from how many plans tick each feature (two plans for storage, the free domain, stats and ad removal; one for PayPal, reviews and priority support). It is the obvious reading, but check the live grid before you pay.

The odd part is the spacing. Professional costs just $2 a month more than Personal on yearly billing, and, going by the grid, those $2 remove the ads and add a free domain. Personal only makes sense if you already own a domain and can live with Square branding on your site.

Weebly free plan limits you hit first

Is Weebly still free? Yes. The $0 tier is listed, and on the selling side it gives away more than most rivals: cart, unlimited items, inventory tracking, in-store pickup, coupons and automatic tax calculation. What it withholds is identity. There is no custom domain on the free tier, so visitors see a Weebly-provided address, and the free plan ads (Square ads, in the grid's wording) appear to stay until Professional. Unlimited storage also looks like a top-two-plan feature, and no storage figure is printed for the free tier, so assume a cap. Fine for a class project or a test shop. For anything with your business name on it, budget at least $15 a month.

Putting a first Weebly site together in an afternoon

The drag and drop builder has hardly changed in years, which helps if you hate relearning software. A sensible order for a small services business:

  • Pick a responsive theme close to the look you want; restyling a finished site takes longer than starting right.
  • Build Home, About, Services and Contact pages, then add an enquiry form from the form builder, which also handles RSVP lists and surveys.
  • Fill in the SEO settings for each page before publishing, not after.
  • If you sell, connect Square or PayPal under Settings, then Checkout.
  • Upgrade and attach your custom domain before you share the link with anyone.

The Weebly App Center adds third-party integrations for the site, store or blog. Check when an app was last updated before you build a workflow around it.

Selling through Square checkout from India

Square's help article on Weebly payments lists two processors. Square takes cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay and deposits funds in one to two business days. PayPal pays out the same day, though the pricing grid ticks PayPal checkout on just one plan. Stripe gets only a passing mention, as a card option next to PayPal, with no setup steps. Transaction fees are not on the Weebly pricing page; Square's article only says each processor sets its own.

For Indian ecommerce this is the weak spot. Square's support centre covers eight markets (US, Canada, UK, Australia, Ireland, France, Japan, Spain), and India is not one of them. There is no official word on UPI, Razorpay or cash on delivery. A feature request in Square's seller community asking for rupee pricing and Indian gateways drew no reply that addresses it. If your shop needs UPI checkout, Weebly is the wrong base.

Blogs, forms and SEO settings on a Weebly site

Each plan gets a blog, the form builder, lead capture and an Instagram feed block. Going by tick counts, pop-up notifications start at Personal and advanced site stats at Professional.

Is Weebly good for SEO? Adequate for a local firm that needs ten or fifteen pages indexed. SEO is ticked on all four plans and SSL is free throughout, which covers the basics Google expects. But nothing on the official pages suggests new search features are coming, and with Square putting its effort into Square Online, you shouldn't expect the editor to keep pace with how search changes. If organic traffic is your main channel, WordPress gives you far more control.

Weebly vs Wix: cheaper on paper, thinner in use

Weebly vs Wix which is better is mostly a question of whether you want the lowest bill or a product that is still moving. Wix's Light plan is $17 a month on yearly billing against Weebly's $13 Personal, and Wix only lets you accept payments from Core at $29. Weebly's free tier, by contrast, includes a cart. Wix's free plan is capped at 500 MB of storage and 1 GB of bandwidth and shows Wix ads.

The gap that matters for India is payments: Wix documents Razorpay, Cashfree Payments and PayU India connections for Indian businesses, while Weebly offers none of those. Wix also ships editor updates regularly. For most Indian buyers starting fresh, Wix is the safer spend despite the higher sticker price.

Weebly vs Squarespace for a portfolio or small shop

Squarespace has no free tier. Basic costs $19 a month billed yearly ($25 month-to-month) and adds a 2% store fee, which disappears at Core ($29 yearly). You pay more, and in return you get design-led templates, built-in email campaigns and a company that is still investing in the product. A photographer or architect who cares about presentation will be happier there. Weebly wins only on price, at $15 for what the grid suggests is an ad-free plan with a domain thrown in.

Weebly website builder review and pricing: who should still choose it

  • Existing owners in India, the US or the UK with a site that works: no need to panic-move, but keep a fresh archive and your domain under your own control.
  • A US-based relative or client who already runs a Square point-of-sale counter and wants a simple site linked to the same catalogue: still a reasonable fit, though Square Online is the product Square now promotes.
  • New Indian businesses: hard to recommend. Dollar billing, no local gateways and a parent that is retreating from dozens of markets are three reasons to look elsewhere.

Leaving Weebly for WordPress or another builder

If you decide to migrate from Weebly, start with your data. Network Solutions' guide points to Edit Site, then Settings, General and Archive for a .zip copy, and Khaleej Times describes a Download My Data option under My Data in account settings. In a Square community thread from March 2025, a seller says a Square specialist told them the archive cannot be imported back into Weebly; treat it as a static backup.

How do you move a Weebly site to WordPress? There is no one-click importer documented on Weebly's side, so plan a rebuild:

  • Set up WordPress (self-hosted or WordPress.com) and pick a theme close to your current layout.
  • Recreate pages and copy blog posts, either by hand or with a third-party migration tool, and re-upload images from the archive.
  • Keep URLs identical where possible and add 301 redirects for any that change.
  • Move the domain last. Khaleej Times sums up the steps: under Websites, Domains, Manage Domain, switch off the registrar lock and copy the EPP code, and expect a 60-day wait after registration or a contact change.

The best Weebly alternatives depend on what you sell. Wix suits shops that need Razorpay. WordPress.com suits content-heavy sites and bills Indian users in rupees, with UPI accepted. Squarespace fits design-led portfolios. Square Online is the natural step only if you already process payments with Square in one of its markets.

Weebly FAQ

What is Weebly?

Weebly is a hosted website builder started in the mid-2000s and owned by Square (now Block, Inc.) since 2018. You build pages by dragging blocks onto a theme, and it includes a blog, forms and an online store that runs on Square's catalogue and checkout.

How much does Weebly cost?

The official pricing page lists Free at $0, Personal at $13/mo, Professional at $15/mo and Performance at $32/mo on yearly billing. Month-to-month prices are $16, $20 and $36. At ≈₹94.7 per USD, Professional is about ₹1,421 a month approx. on the yearly rate.

Is Weebly still free?

Yes, a $0 plan is still listed and it even includes a shopping cart with unlimited items. It does not let you connect a custom domain and it shows Square ads, which the pricing grid suggests disappear only on the top two plans.

How do I create a website with Weebly?

Sign up, pick a theme, then drag text, image, form and product blocks onto each page and publish. Fill in page titles and descriptions in the SEO settings, connect a payment processor if you sell, and upgrade to a paid plan before attaching your own domain.

Is Weebly good for SEO?

It covers the basics: SEO tools are included on every plan and SSL is free. It is fine for a small local site, but serious content sites get far more control from WordPress, and Weebly shows no sign of adding new search features.

Weebly vs Wix: which is better?

Weebly is cheaper (Personal $13/mo against Wix Light at $17/mo, both billed yearly) and its free plan includes a cart. Wix is the stronger choice for most new buyers because it is actively developed and supports Indian gateways such as Razorpay, Cashfree Payments and PayU India.

Can I use Weebly in India?

Yes. India is not among the 67 countries where Weebly is shutting down, according to reports quoting Weebly's notice. Billing is in US dollars, there is no India version of the site, and Square's support centre does not cover India, so a store would rely on PayPal, which the pricing grid ticks on only one plan.

What are the best Weebly alternatives?

Wix for small shops that need Razorpay or other Indian gateways, WordPress.com or self-hosted WordPress for content-heavy sites, and Squarespace for design-led portfolios. Square Online makes sense only for businesses already taking payments with Square in its supported countries.

How do I move a Weebly site to WordPress?

Download an archive of your site first, then rebuild in WordPress: recreate pages, copy blog posts by hand or with a third-party migration tool, and re-upload images. Keep URLs the same or add 301 redirects, and transfer the domain last using the EPP code from Weebly's domain settings.

Who is Weebly best for?

People who already run a working Weebly site, and US sellers who use Square in-store and want a simple linked website. New Indian businesses, especially shops that need UPI checkout, will be better served by Wix or WordPress.
