Our verdict

3.9out of 5

Tidio is a strong pick for small stores and SaaS teams that want human chat, scripted bots and an AI agent together without paying per seat. Budget carefully, because Lyro, Flows and human conversations are metered separately, and Indian buyers pay in dollars by card.

How this score works: the DevMixa score is research-based — we compare official pricing, features, documentation, support options, security and data policies, and public user feedback against other tools in the same category. It is not a hands-on test; tools we test ourselves are marked “Tested”.

What is Tidio?

Fifty conversations a month, ten seats and a chat bubble that costs nothing: that is the hook Tidio uses to get onto more than 300,000 businesses, by its own count. The harder question is what happens in month three, when your Shopify store gets busier and the bill starts to depend on three separate meters. This tidio live chat and chatbot pricing review works through those meters using Tidio's pricing page and help centre as of October 2026, so you can estimate a real monthly cost before the trial ends.

Tidio was founded in 2013 in Szczecin, Poland, by Tytus Gołas, who is still CEO. It now runs offices in San Francisco, Warsaw and Szczecin and lists more than 180 staff. The product bundles four things: a live chat widget with a shared inbox and ticketing, a no-code bot builder called Flows, an AI agent called Lyro, and a help desk. Small ecommerce teams on Shopify, WooCommerce or WordPress are the core audience, though SaaS companies and agencies use it too.

Three meters, not one price: how Tidio actually bills

Most chat tools charge per agent seat. Tidio does not. Every self-serve plan includes up to 10 seats (called tidio operators in older docs), and you pay instead for billable conversations (ones where a human agent replies or starts the chat), Lyro conversations (any thread where the AI sends at least one reply) and Flows visitors reached. Each meter has its own slider on the pricing page. Unanswered visitor messages and spam you never reply to are not counted, and replies sent by Flows or Lyro are not treated as agent replies.

PlanPrice (billed yearly)What you get
Free$050 billable conversations/mo, 10 seats, 100 Flows visitors/mo, 50 Lyro conversations once
Starter$24.17/mo100 billable conversations/mo, 10 seats, 100 Flows visitors/mo, 50 one-time Lyro conversations
GrowthFrom $49.17/moFrom 250 billable conversations/mo, sliders up to 2,000; branding removal is a $16.67/mo add-on
Lyro AI AgentFrom $32.50/mo50 Lyro conversations/mo, scalable to 1,000
FlowsFrom $24.17/mo2,000 visitors reached/mo, scalable to 100,000
PlusFrom $300/mo plus usageCustom quotas and seat count, lower usage rates, premium support, dedicated success manager, custom branding
PremiumCustom quoteEverything in Plus, 3,000+ Lyro conversations, guaranteed 50% Lyro resolution rate, pay per resolution

These are the yearly-billed rates; the Annually toggle on the pricing page carries a "2 months free" label. Paying month to month costs more, so flip the toggle to see the current monthly figure before you commit. Starter, Growth, Lyro and Flows each come with a 7-day trial without a card. If you do not upgrade, the account simply falls back to Free.

Tidio free plan limits: 50 human chats and a one-time Lyro sample

The free tier is usable, not a demo. You get live chat, ticketing, email management, video calls, basic analytics, the AI reply assistant and 10 agent seats. Real-time visitor tracking (the live visitors list) and operating hours only arrive with Starter. The catch is volume. Fifty human-handled conversations a month is fine for a new D2C brand doing a few orders a day, and too tight once you run ads. The 100 Flows visitors refresh every 30 days. Lyro is different: the 50 AI conversations are a lifetime quota per project and do not renew, so once they are gone Lyro goes quiet until you buy a package. Tidio branding also stays on the widget.

Tidio Lyro AI pricing and what a Lyro conversation means

The Lyro AI chatbot answers open-ended questions from a knowledge base you build out of FAQs, website pages and imported help articles. Tidio's help centre lists 48 reply languages, Hindi, Bengali and Urdu among them. Newer additions include Lyro Actions (calling external systems, for example to check an order) and Lyro Procedures.

On cost, the standalone Lyro AI Agent plan starts at $32.50 a month billed yearly for 50 conversations, with sliders at 100, 150, 200, 300, 500, 750 and 1,000. One conversation is counted at Lyro's first reply, and follow-up replies in the same thread are free. The help article adds a detail that matters for budgeting: a thread closes after 15 minutes of inactivity, so a shopper who comes back after lunch can trigger a second count. If Lyro hands the chat straight to a human, nothing is deducted. The paid quota resets each month on the date you first bought the upgrade. Above 1,000 a month you move to Plus or Premium, where Premium switches to pay-per-resolution pricing.

Flows: the rule-based half of the bot story

Tidio flows are visual, trigger-and-action bots: a visitor lands on the pricing page, waits 20 seconds, and gets a discount message, or someone abandons a cart and sees a reminder. Tidio templates cover common cases like lead capture, order status and cart recovery, so most people edit a template rather than start blank. The pricing page puts it plainly: Lyro handles questions it was not scripted for, while chatbot flows follow rules you set, and you can run both. Flows are billed by visitors reached, from 100 a month free up to 100,000 on the paid sliders.

Tidio Shopify chatbot setup in about fifteen minutes

The tidio shopify integration goes through the Shopify App Store listing ("Tidio Live Chat and AI Chatbot"). According to the install guide, you add the app, click through to the Tidio panel, then go to Online Store, Themes, Customize, open App embeds and switch on the Tidio Chat Widget toggle. That last step is the one people miss, and it has to be repeated whenever you change theme. Existing Tidio users can paste the JavaScript snippet into theme.liquid instead, but only one method should be active at a time.

After install, connect Lyro to your product catalogue for product recommendations, and turn on a cart-recovery flow. Help docs also cover sending Shopify products into a chat, managing orders from the inbox and tracking coupon-code revenue. WooCommerce and plain WordPress sites get similar plugin routes.

Tidio vs tawk.to, with Intercom as the premium benchmark

tawk.to is the obvious free rival. Its pricing page says the core chat product is free with no time limits, removing branding costs $29 a month, and its AI Assist bot starts from $29 a month. For a support team that only needs human chat across many agents, tawk.to is cheaper, full stop. Tidio earns its price through the automation layer: Flows, Lyro with Actions, and Shopify order and product tools inside the inbox.

Intercom sits higher. Its pricing page lists seat plans from $29 to $132 per seat per month on annual billing and charges $0.99 per Fin outcome for its AI agent. A five-person team on Intercom pays for five seats before any AI usage, while the same team on Tidio Growth pays nothing extra per seat. Intercom does offer more mature reporting, workflows and enterprise controls. Other alternatives worth shortlisting are Crisp, Gorgias for Shopify-heavy support desks, and Freshchat if you already use Freshworks.

Paying for Tidio from India

Tidio has no INR price list. Plans are shown in US dollars and the billing guide describes paying by card, with invoices downloadable as PDFs from Settings, Project, Billing. In practice that means an international-enabled credit or debit card, and your bank may add a foreign transaction markup. At roughly ₹94.7 to the dollar, Starter on yearly billing (about $290) works out to approximately ₹27,500 a year. That is our own conversion, not an official INR price, so budget in dollars and check the rupee figure on your card statement. Tidio does not publish GST invoicing details for Indian businesses, so ask support before you rely on input tax credit.

EEA data storage, a DPA on request, and sectors Lyro will not serve

Tidio's GDPR article says it has been compliant since May 2018, stores data on servers in EEA countries, and will send a Data Processing Agreement if you email support with the subject "DPA". Billing details go to its US subsidiary, Tidio LLC, under standard contractual clauses. A separate security article says the infrastructure runs on AWS and chat connections use 256-bit SSL, and the help centre documents two-factor login. What Tidio does not state clearly is whether conversation data is used to train its AI; neither the privacy policy nor the AI terms answer that, so raise it with sales if it matters to you.

The AI fair-use terms also bar Lyro from several sectors, including healthcare, finance and investment advice, legal advice, gambling, news and political campaigning. Fintech or health startups should read that list before building a bot.

When the chat bubble refuses to appear

Tidio's troubleshooting guide names two usual causes: a broken installation, or the widget set to hidden in settings. On Shopify, check the App embeds toggle first. If flows show old messages, test in a fresh incognito window, because the browser keeps earlier sessions in local storage. Still stuck? Support wants your site URL and the Public Key from Settings, Developer.

Where this tidio live chat and chatbot pricing review lands

Tidio is a good buy for small online stores and lean SaaS teams that want one widget doing human chat, scripted flows and AI answers, without per-seat fees. Its weak spots are metered pricing that needs watching, a non-renewing AI trial and a 10-seat cap below Plus. Messenger and WhatsApp sit in the integrations directory; if you also need Instagram DMs, confirm support inside the app, since the directory page we reviewed did not list it. Tidio email marketing is not a reason to buy either, because the pricing page includes no newsletter quota and you will want a separate email tool.

A sensible plan: start Free, install via the Shopify app or snippet, build one Flows template for order status, load 20 good FAQs into Lyro, then watch the usage screen for two weeks. Upgrade only the meter you actually hit.

Tidio FAQ

What is Tidio?

Tidio is a customer service platform founded in 2013 in Szczecin, Poland, that combines a live chat widget, a shared inbox with ticketing, rule-based Flows and the Lyro AI agent. It is aimed mainly at small and mid-sized online stores and service businesses. The company says more than 300,000 businesses use it.

Is Tidio free?

Yes. The Free plan costs $0 and includes 50 billable conversations a month, 10 seats, 100 Flows visitors a month and a one-time pool of 50 Lyro AI conversations. Tidio branding stays on the widget, and paid plans start at $24.17 a month on yearly billing.

How many conversations does the Tidio free plan include?

The Free plan includes 50 billable conversations a month, meaning chats where a human agent replies or starts the conversation. Unanswered visitor messages do not count, and replies from Flows or Lyro are not treated as agent replies. Lyro gets a separate 50 conversations that do not renew.

How do I set up a chatbot in Tidio?

Open Flows in the Tidio panel, pick a template such as order status or lead capture, adjust the trigger and messages, and activate it. For AI answers, add FAQs or website pages to Lyro's knowledge base and switch Lyro on. Test in a fresh incognito window so you see what a new visitor sees.

Is Tidio safe?

Tidio says it has been GDPR compliant since May 2018, stores data in EEA countries on AWS infrastructure and offers a DPA on request. Chat connections use 256-bit SSL and two-factor authentication is available. It does not clearly state whether conversation data trains its AI, so ask sales if that matters.

Tidio vs Intercom vs tawk.to: which should I pick?

tawk.to is the cheapest, with free core chat and $29 a month to remove branding. Tidio adds Flows, Lyro and Shopify order tools with up to 10 seats included on self-serve plans. Intercom charges $29 to $132 per seat a month on annual billing plus $0.99 per Fin outcome and suits larger support teams.

Can I pay for Tidio in India?

Yes. Tidio bills in US dollars and its billing guide describes card payments, so you need an international-enabled card. There is no INR price list, and your bank may add a foreign transaction charge. Check GST invoicing with Tidio support before purchase.

What are the best Tidio alternatives?

tawk.to is the main free alternative for human live chat. Intercom suits teams that need advanced workflows and reporting, Gorgias is built for Shopify support desks, and Crisp and Freshchat are mid-priced options. The right pick depends on whether you pay for seats or for conversations.

Why is Tidio chat not showing on my website?

Tidio's troubleshooting guide says the usual causes are an incorrect installation or the widget being set to hidden. On Shopify, make sure the Tidio Chat Widget toggle is on under App embeds, and turn it on again after a theme change. If it still fails, send support your site URL and Public Key.

Who is Tidio best for?

Tidio fits small ecommerce stores and lean SaaS teams that want live chat, scripted bots and an AI agent in one widget without per-seat pricing. It suits Shopify and WooCommerce stores especially well. Large support teams needing more than 10 agents will need the Plus plan or a seat-based tool.
