What is Jotform?

Five forms, 100 submissions a month and 100 MB of upload space. That is the whole free allowance, and it decides more about Jotform than any feature list does. This page sets out Jotform pricing and free plan limits as published in October 2026, using figures from the official pricing page and Jotform's public plan API, then looks at payments in India, PDFs, e-signatures, the newer AI Agents and how it compares with Google Forms and Typeform.

Jotform was started in 2006 by Aytekin Tank and is run from San Francisco, with further offices that include London and Istanbul. At heart it is a drag-and-drop form builder with templates for almost every use (order forms, registrations, patient intake, job applications), but over the years it has grown a set of add-on products around the form: Jotform Tables, Jotform Sign, the PDF Editor, Jotform Approvals, Report Builder, Inbox, Jotform Apps and AI Agents. Most of these share the same plan quotas, which is why the limits matter so much.

Jotform Starter, Bronze, Silver and Gold plans side by side

The four self-serve tiers are called Starter (free), Bronze, Silver and Gold. Enterprise sits above them on custom pricing. Prices are in US dollars (Jotform bills European customers in euros), paid by card or PayPal. Yearly billing works out cheaper per month. The standard rates below come from Jotform's plan data, and the yearly per-month figures match those Jotform quotes in its own blog articles.

Other meters scale with the plan too. Payment submissions per month go 10, 100, 250 and 1,000 from Starter to Gold. Signed documents follow the same 10, 100, 250, 1,000 pattern, and monthly form views go from 10,000 on Starter to 10 million on Gold. Fields per form rise from 100 to 1,000. Paid plans remove Jotform branding from forms and signed documents.

The pricing page describes Enterprise as the only multi-user plan, and it adds SSO, custom domains and stronger security controls. Other discounts come and go, apply only to yearly upgrades and renew at full price, so budget on the standard rates in the table.

What the Jotform free plan 100 submissions cap means in practice

One hundred responses a month is plenty for a contact form on a small portfolio site or a monthly feedback survey. It is thin for a school admission drive, a webinar registration page or a festive-season order form, where 100 entries can arrive in a single afternoon. Monthly counts reset on the first day of your usage cycle, and deleting entries does not give quota back.

The quieter limit is the 500 total stored submissions. Jotform's help article on account usage says that once you exceed submission storage, the oldest entry is removed to make room for the new one. If you rely on the free plan, export to Google Sheets or connect Google Drive so you have your own copy. When an account goes over a monthly cap or the 100 MB upload space, forms are switched off on the date given in Jotform's warning email and visitors see a "Form over quota" notice until the cycle resets or you upgrade.

Starter is still unusually generous on features. Jotform presents Starter as the way to try its standard features, including conditional logic, widgets, payment fields and templates; mostly it is the volume that is restricted. That makes it a fair way to build and test a real form before paying.

Where Jotform pricing and free plan limits pinch Indian teams

There is no INR price list. Bronze at $39 a month, billed in dollars on an international card, is a noticeable monthly cost for a freelancer or a small D2C brand, more than five times the price of Google Workspace Business Starter. The pricing FAQ says prices include tax and that entering a valid tax ID removes it at checkout, so businesses with a GSTIN should check this during payment. Jotform also offers a full refund if you cancel within 30 days of a payment, which takes some risk out of trying a paid tier.

The bigger planning issue is that every add-on draws from the same quotas. A Bronze account running an order form, a signing flow and an AI Agent shares 1,000 submissions, 100 payment submissions and 100 signed documents across all of them.

Payment forms, PayU India and the missing Razorpay option

Jotform connects with a long list of payment processors, including Stripe, PayPal, Square, Braintree and PayU. For Indian merchants the relevant one is PayU India: Jotform's help guide shows the currency locked to INR, with cards and net banking accepted once you paste in your PayU merchant key and salt. A sandbox mode is available for testing.

Razorpay does not appear among Jotform's native gateways in its payment help guides. Teams that already use Razorpay usually connect it through automation tools such as Pabbly Connect or Albato, for example by generating a payment link after a submission. That works, but it adds a second subscription and a short delay for the customer. The pricing page does not mention any extra Jotform transaction fee on payment forms; your gateway's own charges still apply.

Jotform PDF Editor, Sign, Tables and Approvals after the submit button

Where Jotform pulls ahead of plain survey tools is what happens to the data afterwards. The Jotform PDF Editor can turn each submission into a formatted PDF (an invoice, a certificate, an application summary) and attach it to the notification or autoresponder email. Its Smart PDF Forms feature can also turn an uploaded PDF into a web form.

Jotform Sign collects e-signatures on documents, and each signed document counts toward the plan's signed-document quota. Jotform Tables shows every response in a spreadsheet-style view, and Jotform Approvals routes a submission to the right person for a decision, which suits leave requests or purchase approvals. Jotform Apps bundles several forms and links into a single mobile-friendly app without code. The Android and iOS apps add offline collection, kiosk mode, barcode scanning and GPS fields for field teams.

Jotform AI Agents and their plan quotas

Jotform AI Agents are conversational assistants that answer from a knowledge base you supply and then fill in a form through chat. Jotform offers them as a website chatbot and on WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram and a mobile app, and the plan data also meters phone calls and SMS. You can start from scratch or convert an existing form.

Creating an agent is free, but usage is metered. The plan data allows 5 agents and 100 conversations a month on Starter, 25 agents and 1,000 conversations on Bronze, 50 and 2,500 on Silver, and 100 and 10,000 on Gold. On data, the privacy policy says AI providers may access what is entered during AI interactions and points to a separate AI policy for details. For HIPAA accounts, the pricing FAQ says AI Agents run on Google's Gemini models through Vertex AI under a Business Associate Agreement. Sensitive projects should read both documents first.

HIPAA compliance only starts at Gold

Clinics and health startups should note that HIPAA features are limited to Gold and Enterprise. Jotform's help guide explains that enabling them moves the account to an isolated server, enforces stronger passwords, blocks widgets and integrations that are not HIPAA-compatible, and lets you sign a Business Associate Agreement from the Data page. That puts compliant intake forms at $99 a month on yearly billing as the floor.

Beyond healthcare, the privacy policy (revised 31 August 2026) says Jotform does not sell form response data, that data sits on US servers by default with an EU storage option, and that Jotform follows GDPR and the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. Commercial use of forms is the normal case.

Jotform vs Google Forms, and where Typeform fits

Google Forms is free with any Google account and its help pages give no monthly response cap, so for internal surveys, quizzes and simple sign-ups it usually wins on cost. It trails on payments, PDFs, e-signatures and design control, which are the areas Jotform sells. Typeform is the other common comparison: its free plan allows only 10 responses a month and its Basic plan sits around $25 to $39 a month, but its one-question-at-a-time design suits lead capture and quizzes.

Other alternatives worth a look are Microsoft Forms for Microsoft 365 offices, Zoho Forms for teams already on Zoho, and Tally for makers who want generous free limits.

Why Jotform notification emails sometimes go missing

A common support question is why form alerts stop arriving. The usual causes are a typo in the recipient address, messages filtered to spam, the address landing on Jotform's bounce list, or a company mail server blocking Jotform's sending domains. Jotform has a help guide for taking an address off the bounce list; if that is not the problem, ask your IT team to allowlist Jotform. Remember that Starter allows just one notification email with a single recipient.

Building a first Jotform order form before you pay

Pick an order or registration template, set your prices and add conditional logic so only relevant fields appear. Connect PayU India in sandbox mode and run a few test payments, then add a PDF receipt through the PDF Editor and link Google Sheets for a backup. Run the form on Starter for a month and watch the Account Usage page. If you regularly cross 100 submissions or 10 payments, Bronze on yearly billing is the logical next step; jump to Gold only when you need HIPAA, 10,000 monthly entries or heavy AI Agent use.
