Our verdict
Veo is the most affordable serious AI video option for developers, with Lite clips with sound from $0.05 a second on Google Cloud, and the Flow app makes it usable for marketers on rupee plans. Pick the cloud route for client work, Flow on AI Pro for regular experiments, and skip it if you need long single takes.
How this score works: the DevMixa score is research-based — we compare official pricing, features, documentation, support options, security and data policies, and public user feedback against other tools in the same category. It is not a hands-on test; tools we test ourselves are marked “Tested”.
What is Google Veo?
Google moved video generation in the Gemini chat app from Veo to a new model, Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash, in 2026. Veo did not disappear: it still powers the Flow filmmaking tool and is sold to developers through Google Cloud. This Google Veo 3.1 AI video generator review and pricing guide is for Indian buyers who want to know which route to use, what a clip costs, and when a subscription beats paying per second.
Where Veo still lives now that Omni runs the Gemini app
Google's video generation overview page says plainly that Omni will replace Veo in the Gemini app. Omni makes clips of up to 10 seconds with native audio and can animate up to five of your photos. Veo itself is now reached in two ways:
- Flow, Google's filmmaking app, where you pick Veo 3.1 Lite, Fast or Quality (or Omni Flash) per shot and pay in credits.
- Google Cloud, through the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform (formerly Vertex AI), billed per second.
The Gemini API and AI Studio carried Veo 3.1 as preview models, but Google's Veo docs say those previews were set to shut down on 22 October 2026, pointing developers to Omni Flash or the generally available Veo models on Google Cloud.
Price of Veo in India: Google AI Pro, Plus and Ultra compared (3.1 access)
Consumer access comes through the Google AI plans, priced in rupees on the Indian subscriptions page. Each paid tier adds a monthly pot of Flow credits, which decides how many Veo shots you get.
| Plan | India price | US price | Flow credits a month |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | ₹0 | $0 | None (50 daily credits for everyone) |
| Google AI Plus | ₹399/mo | $4.99/mo | 200 |
| Google AI Pro | ₹1,950/mo | $19.99/mo | 1,000 |
| Google AI Ultra | ₹6,500/mo | $99.99/mo | 10,000 |
| Google AI Ultra (20x) | ₹19,500/mo | $199.99/mo | 25,000 |
Flow's credit help page sets the exchange rate. A Lite generation costs 10 credits for subscribers below Ultra and Fast costs 20, while a Quality shot costs 100 for everyone. Ultra members pay half on Lite and Fast, and Ultra subscribers and family plan managers also get a lower-priority Lite queue at zero credits.
So the ₹1,950 Pro plan buys about 10 Quality, 50 Fast or 100 Lite shots a month: enough to test ad concepts, thin for an agency. At ₹6,500, Ultra's 10,000 credits stretch to roughly 1,000 Fast clips at the Ultra rate. The ₹399 Plus plan is mostly about Omni: its 200 credits cover around 16 Omni Flash clips of 8 seconds at 720p, which cost 12 credits each.
Two rules matter before you subscribe. Unused monthly credits do not roll over, and paid subscribers can buy extra AI credits when they run short, though the help page prints no top-up price. Google also says these credit costs can change at any time.
Per-second rates for Veo on Google Cloud (Vertex AI)
Developers skip credits. The Agent Platform pricing page lists Veo per unit of finished video, and audio roughly doubles the price:
- 3.1 Quality: $0.40 a second with audio at 720p or 1080p, $0.60 at 4K; $0.20 and $0.40 without audio.
- 3.1 Fast: $0.10 (720p), $0.12 (1080p) and $0.30 (4K) with audio; $0.08, $0.10 and $0.25 silent.
- 3.1 Lite: $0.05 (720p) and $0.08 (1080p) with audio; $0.03 and $0.05 silent. No 4K.
The page writes the unit as "1 count". The older Vertex AI pricing page showed the same $0.40 rate for Veo 3 as "per second", so a count is one second of output. An 8-second 1080p Quality clip with sound therefore costs $3.20, the same clip on Fast costs $0.96, and a 720p Lite clip with audio comes to $0.40. Google launched Lite on 31 March 2026 at less than half the cost of Fast, and cut Fast prices a week later. Older Veo 3 and Veo 2 rows are still listed.
Omni Flash is billed by output tokens at $17.50 per million, and Google counts 5,792 tokens per second of 720p video, close to $0.10 a second. Omni has no free API tier, so plan on a billing account from day one.
Audio generation with Veo: what the 3.1 models add to a clip
Sound made in the same pass as the picture is what set Veo apart. Describe a scene and the clip returns with ambient noise, effects and lip-synced dialogue. On the API this is a pricing choice: native audio at the higher rate, or silent video at roughly half price with your own track added afterwards.
For Indian marketers, a product demo or short explainer can arrive with voice and room tone in one render. Put dialogue in quotes inside the prompt and describe the sound you want ("traffic outside, ceiling fan hum") rather than leaving it to chance. Google's docs do not list supported spoken languages, so try Hindi or regional-language lines on Lite before spending Quality credits on them.
The 8-second ceiling and how extension stretches it
Each generation is short. Google's Veo docs list 4, 6 or 8 seconds at 24 frames per second, in 16:9 or 9:16. 720p is the default; 1080p and 4K work only on 8 second clips, and Lite tops out at 1080p.
Longer scenes come from extension. On Quality and Fast you add 7 seconds at a time, up to 20 times, for a ceiling of 148 seconds, but extension runs only at 720p and is not offered on Lite. Up to three reference images keep a character consistent, and first and last frames handle image to video work. Note that generated files stay on Google's servers for only two days, and a render can take anything from 11 seconds to 6 minutes at peak times.
Free access to Veo 3.1 and Omni in Flow
There is no free API tier for Veo or Omni, and video in the Gemini app needs a paid plan. The free route is Flow. Its credits page says everyone gets 50 credits a day, subscribed or not. On a free account the easiest way to spend them is Omni at 360p, which costs 4 to 7 credits per clip depending on length, so a day's allowance covers roughly seven to twelve drafts.
The catch is timing. Non-subscribers may be unable to generate video at peak hours, roughly 2 PM to 5 PM UTC (about 7:30 PM to 10:30 PM IST). Daily credits do not carry over, so you cannot save a week of them for one Quality shot.
Why Veo says you have reached your limit
In Flow this message usually means your balance cannot cover the model you picked; dropping from Quality (100 credits) to Fast or Lite often keeps you going, or you can buy AI credits on a paid plan.
In the Gemini app the limit belongs to your plan's usage allowance. Google's subscription page says limits depend on prompt complexity and features used, refresh every five hours and stop at a weekly cap. No daily video count is published. Plus gets twice the free allowance and Pro four times, and the two Ultra tiers get 5x or 20x Pro. On Google Cloud, a limit error is a quota or rate issue in your project, not a credit problem.
Veo vs Sora, and the rivals still worth a look
People still search for this matchup, but it is no longer a buying decision. OpenAI's help center says the Sora web and app experiences were discontinued on 26 April 2026, and the Sora API was set to close on 24 September 2026. There is no Sora 2 subscription left to compare.
The live comparison is with Runway and Kling. Kling's Standard plan is $10 a month for 660 credits, and Kling markets longer single shots than Google's 8 seconds, so check its current model page if shot length matters. Runway's Standard plan is $15 a month for 625 credits, and its own API resells Veo 3.1 at 40 credits (about $0.40) a second with audio, the same as Google's direct Quality rate. Runway's edge is editing existing footage. Google's is price at the low end: Lite with audio at $0.05 a second, and an AI Pro plan that also bundles Gemini and 5 TB of storage.
| Point | Google (Veo and Omni) | Runway |
|---|---|---|
| Entry paid plan | ₹399 AI Plus, 200 Flow credits | $15 Standard, 625 credits |
| Cheapest API rate | $0.03 a second (Lite, silent 720p) | Gen-4.5 at about $0.12 a second |
| Native audio | Yes, in one pass | Depends on model |
| Rupee pricing | Yes, on consumer plans | No official INR price |
SynthID, training settings and commercial use of Veo footage
Every Veo clip carries a SynthID watermark, an invisible signal Google embeds in the frames, and the Gemini overview page says the same of all video made in the app. Gemini's help centre also explains how to check whether an image, video or audio file came from Google AI. That helps with disclosure rules but rules out passing a clip off as real footage.
In the Gemini app, Google's privacy hub says activity helps train its generative models while Keep Activity is on. Switching it off stops that, though chats are still held for 72 hours, and reviewed chats can be kept for up to three years. Paid developer content, the pricing page says, is not used to improve Google's products. Google claims no ownership of what you create, but consumer terms lack a clear commercial-use clause, so keep client work on the paid cloud route. In the EU, UK, Switzerland and the Middle East and North Africa, the API only allows adults in generated people.
Is Veo available in India, and what you need to sign up
Yes. India is on Google's list of countries where Flow works, and the Gemini plans are sold in rupees. Developers reach the same models on Google Cloud with a billing account. You must be 18 or older for Flow and for video in the Gemini app.
The Google Veo 3.1 AI video generator review and pricing verdict by buyer type
Solo creators who want a few clips a week should start free in Flow, then move to AI Pro if Lite and Fast shots become a habit. Agencies should price client reels on Google Cloud, where an 8-second Fast clip with sound at 1080p costs under a dollar. App developers get the best deal: Lite at three to eight cents a second makes AI video viable even at Indian price points. Hold off if you need long uncut scenes or frame-level control.
A first Flow project in four moves
- Open Flow, check your credit balance, and start with Omni at 360p, or Lite if your plan includes it, to test framing and wording cheaply.
- Upload a product photo or character image and use it as a first frame or reference to keep the look steady.
- Once a prompt works, rerun only the winner on Quality at 1080p, and extend it on Fast if the scene needs more time.
- Download each finished clip promptly and keep the prompt text with it, since you will want variations later.
Treat free credits as rehearsal and paid tiers as the shoot.

Google Veo FAQ
What is Google Veo?
Veo is Google DeepMind's family of AI video models that turn text or images into short clips with native audio. The current versions are 3.1 Quality, Fast and Lite. You can use it in the Flow app and on Google Cloud, while the Gemini chat app now uses Gemini Omni for video.
How much does Veo cost in India?
Google AI Plus costs ₹399 a month with 200 Flow credits, AI Pro costs ₹1,950 with 1,000 credits, and AI Ultra costs ₹6,500 or ₹19,500 with 10,000 or 25,000 credits. A Fast shot uses 20 credits on Pro and a Quality shot uses 100. Developers pay in dollars per second on Google Cloud, from $0.03 to $0.60.
Can I use Veo for free?
Only in a limited way. Flow gives every user 50 credits a day, enough for several short Omni drafts at 360p, but non-subscribers may not be able to generate video between about 2 PM and 5 PM UTC. The APIs and the Gemini app's video feature require payment.
How do I generate a video with Veo in Gemini?
The Gemini app now creates video with Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash rather than Veo, and it needs a Google AI plan. Type a prompt or upload up to five photos and Gemini returns a clip of up to 10 seconds with sound. To pick a Veo model by name, use Flow or Google Cloud instead.
Is Veo video watermarked?
Yes. Every clip carries an invisible SynthID watermark embedded by Google. Gemini's help centre explains how to check whether an image, video or audio file was made with Google AI.
Veo 3 vs Sora 2, which is better?
There is no live contest because OpenAI discontinued the Sora app on 26 April 2026 and the Sora API on 24 September 2026. Veo 3 itself has been followed by the 3.1 models, which add Lite pricing and reference images. Runway and Kling are the realistic alternatives today.
Is Veo available in India?
Yes. India is on Google's list of Flow countries, Google AI plans are priced in rupees, and developers can use Veo on Google Cloud. Users must be 18 or older.
What are the best Veo alternatives?
Runway is the closest paid rival, with a $15 Standard plan and strong editing tools for existing footage. Kling starts at $10 a month for 660 credits. Inside Google, Gemini Omni Flash is a cheaper choice for quick clips and edits at about $0.10 a second at 720p.
Why does Veo say I have reached my limit?
In Flow it means your credits cannot cover the selected model, so switch to Fast or Lite or buy AI credits on a paid plan. In the Gemini app, plan limits refresh every five hours up to a weekly cap that Google does not publish as a number. On Google Cloud it signals a project quota or rate limit.
Who should use Google Veo?
It suits marketers and creators who need short clips with sound, agencies that can bill cloud costs per project, and developers adding video to apps, where Lite is very cheap. It is less suited to anyone needing long uncut scenes, since single shots stop at 8 seconds and extensions run at 720p.
