What is Midjourney?

Midjourney is an independent research lab whose image generator is widely regarded as producing some of the most aesthetically striking AI images available. You describe what you want in a text prompt, and it returns several variations you can upscale, vary, edit or extend.

Working with Midjourney

Originally Midjourney was used only through Discord, which confused many first-time users. It now has a full web app with an editor, image gallery, personalisation and the ability to use reference images for style or character consistency. Newer model versions improved prompt accuracy and hands, and Midjourney has added short video generation that animates still images.

Plans and usage rights

Midjourney is subscription-only; there is no permanent free plan. Plans differ mainly in how much fast GPU time you get, whether you can run unlimited relaxed generations, and whether Stealth mode is available to keep your images out of the public gallery. Paid subscribers can use their images commercially, but larger companies above a revenue threshold must be on the higher plans, so check the terms for your situation.

Limitations

Prompting takes practice to get consistent results. Text rendered inside images is still unreliable for logos or banners. On lower plans your creations are visible in the public gallery, which may not suit confidential client work.

Who should choose it

If visual quality is your top priority for blog images, social creatives, moodboards or concept art, Midjourney is a leading choice. Budget users or anyone needing a free tier should compare alternatives first.
