Our verdict
Gemini is one of the better-value AI subscriptions for people already on Google Workspace or Android, with a capable free plan and India pricing from ₹399. Pick ChatGPT Plus instead if you rely on custom GPTs and OpenAI tools, and switch off Keep Activity before using Gemini for client data.
How this score works: the DevMixa score is research-based — we compare official pricing, features, documentation, support options, security and data policies, and public user feedback against other tools in the same category. It is not a hands-on test; tools we test ourselves are marked “Tested”.
What is Google Gemini?
Google Gemini is Google's AI assistant for chat, research, images, video and coding, and it now sits inside Gmail, Docs, Chrome, Android and its own desktop apps. The old "Gemini Advanced" tier is gone. Google folded it into paid Google AI plans, so the question most buyers now ask is really google ai pro vs chatgpt plus: two subscriptions at roughly $20 a month that aim at the same person. This review explains what Gemini does in October 2026, what each plan costs in India and the US, and where it falls short.
Gemini in 2026: one assistant across Search, Android and Workspace
Gemini is a family of large language models built by Google DeepMind, plus the consumer app that runs them at gemini.google.com. You type, speak, upload a file or point your camera, and the model replies with text, code, images or video. The current flagship is Gemini 4 Argon, which Google's release notes say began rolling out to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers on 13 October 2026. Free users get a lighter Flash-Lite model, and the Flash model comes with the cheapest paid tier.
The app is available on the web, Android, iOS, macOS (a native app since April 2026) and Windows 10 or later (since September 2026). Because it is a Google product, it can read your Gmail, Drive and Calendar when you allow it, which is the main practical difference from most rivals.
Which Indian users get the most out of Gemini
Gemini makes the most sense for people who already live in Google Workspace: founders running a company on Gmail and Drive, marketers who draft in Docs, students who need a research helper, and Android users who want an assistant on the power button. Developers get a separate path through Google AI Studio and the Gemini API, which has a free tier for Flash models.
Argon, Nano Banana, Canvas and the other tools you will actually use
- Gemini 4 Argon: the new frontier model on Pro and Ultra. It sits above Gemini 3.1 Pro, which is still included.
- Gemini Live: voice conversation that, since May 2026, is merged into normal chat, so you can switch between talking and typing and share your camera or screen.
- Nano Banana image generation: Nano Banana 2 creates and edits pictures from a prompt. The free plan includes it, and paid plans let you redo an image with Nano Banana Pro for better quality.
- Veo video generation: video is not offered without a plan. Google's video overview says its Gemini Omni model is replacing Veo inside the Gemini app, so app clips on paid plans now come from Omni. The plan pages still list limited Veo 3.1 Lite access on Pro and Veo 3.1 on Ultra, mainly through the Flow filmmaking tool.
- Gemini Canvas: a side panel for writing documents and building small web apps, and for turning research into infographics, quizzes or audio overviews.
- Gems custom assistants: saved instruction sets for repeat jobs, such as a brand-voice writer. Since September 2026 Google has been rolling out "skills" to replace Gems, and existing Gems move over automatically when they are retired.
- Gemini in Google Workspace: AI Plus adds Gemini inside Gmail and Vids, and AI Pro extends it to Docs. On company accounts, every Workspace Business plan now includes Gemini, with Starter limited to Gmail and the Gemini app and Standard adding Docs, Meet and more.
- Gemini Notebook: the research notebook that was called NotebookLM until July 2026. It answers only from the sources you upload and can produce Audio Overviews.
- Tasks and connected apps: with Argon, Gemini can keep working on a job in the background and connect to more than 40 apps such as Shopify, Adobe and OpenTable.
Google AI Pro plan price in India
Google's India subscriptions page lists four consumer tiers. Prices below are as shown on 17 October 2026.
| Plan | India price | US price | Main extras |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | ₹0 | $0 | Flash-Lite model, images, Deep Research, Live, Canvas, 15 GB storage |
| Google AI Plus | ₹399/mo | $4.99/mo (400 GB) | Flash model, 2x limits, video generation, 128k context, 400 GB storage |
| Google AI Pro | ₹1,950/mo | $19.99/mo | Gemini 4 Argon, 4x limits, 1M context, Workspace AI, 5 TB storage |
| Google AI Ultra | From ₹6,500/mo | From $99.99/mo | Highest limits, Veo 3.1, Project Genie, YouTube Premium, 20 TB+ storage |
In the US, Google One also sells a 2 TB version of AI Plus at $9.99 a month. Ultra has a second tier at ₹19,500 ($199.99) a month with 20x the AI Pro limits. The storage bundle matters for Indian buyers: AI Pro includes 5 TB of Google storage shared across Gmail, Drive and Photos, so if you already pay for Google One, the effective AI cost is lower than it looks. Businesses that need admin controls should look at Gemini Enterprise, which starts at $21 per seat per month for the Business edition.
Gemini free limits per day
Google no longer publishes a fixed number of prompts per day. Its help centre says limits are compute-based: a short text question uses little, while Deep Research and video use the most. Your allowance refreshes every 5 hours until you hit a weekly cap. Free accounts get "standard limits" and a 32k-token context window. AI Plus doubles the limits with a 128k context, Pro gives 4x the limits and a 1-million-token context, and Ultra goes 5x or 20x beyond Pro. When a paid user runs out, the chat falls back to Flash-Lite instead of stopping. Anyone uploading long PDFs on the free plan will hit the 32k ceiling quickly.
Gemini deep research how to use
Deep Research is open to every signed-in user aged 18 or over, with Pro and Ultra getting better models and more reports. According to Google's help page, the steps are simple:
- Open gemini.google.com, click the add-files menu in the prompt box and choose Deep Research.
- Attach files if you want them used, and pick sources. Google Search is on by default, and you can add Gmail or Drive.
- Type your question. Gemini shows a research plan that you can edit before clicking Start research.
- Wait 5 to 10 minutes. You can leave the chat and Gemini notifies you when the report is ready.
- Use the Canvas panel to export the report to Google Docs, create an Audio Overview or turn it into a visual.
Edit the plan before it starts: narrowing a vague question such as "UPI market" to "UPI merchant fees for small Indian retailers since 2024" gives a tighter report.
Google AI Pro vs ChatGPT Plus
Both cost about $20 a month. ChatGPT Plus is $20 per month according to OpenAI's help centre, and Google AI Pro is $19.99 (₹1,950 in India). The comparison comes down to what else you get.
| Point | Google AI Pro | ChatGPT Plus |
|---|---|---|
| Price | $19.99 / ₹1,950 a month | $20 a month |
| Top model | Gemini 4 Argon | GPT-6.1 Sol, plus other GPT-6 and GPT-5.6 models |
| Context window | 1 million tokens | Varies by model |
| Bundled extras | 5 TB storage, YouTube Premium Lite, Workspace AI | No storage or media bundle |
| Best fit | Google Workspace and Android users | People built around custom GPTs and OpenAI tools |
If your team runs on Gmail and Drive, the choice between these two plans usually tilts to Google because of the storage and the in-app Workspace help. If you depend on custom GPTs or a tool chain built around OpenAI, Plus remains the easier pick.
Gemini vs ChatGPT which is better, and where Claude fits
There is no single winner. Gemini is strongest at long documents (thanks to the 1M context on Pro), Google-connected tasks, Indian-language voice and cheap entry pricing through AI Plus. ChatGPT has a bigger library of custom GPTs and a polished voice mode. Claude, from Anthropic, charges $20 a month for Pro (or $17 a month billed yearly) according to its pricing page and is popular for careful long-form writing and coding. Other alternatives worth a look are Microsoft Copilot (good for Office users) and Perplexity (search-first answers with citations).
Is Gemini available in India in Hindi?
Yes. Google's India blog lists Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu alongside English, and Gemini Live has handled Hindi voice chat since late 2024. All four plans are sold in rupees through the India subscriptions page.
What Google keeps from your Gemini chats
Google's Gemini Apps Privacy Hub is clear on training. If the Keep Activity setting is on, your chats can be used to improve Google services, including training generative AI models, and some chats are read by human reviewers. Reviewed chats are kept for up to three years, separate from your account, even after you delete your history. Activity auto-deletes after 18 months by default, and you can change that to 3 or 36 months. With Keep Activity off, or in a temporary chat, conversations are held for 72 hours and are not used for training. For client work, turn Keep Activity off or use Gemini Enterprise, which adds compliance controls.
On ownership, Google's Terms of Service say Google will not claim ownership of original content you create with its services. They do not spell out commercial-use rules for Gemini output, so check client contracts before publishing AI-made work. The privacy hub asks users to upload and generate only content they have rights to, and the Generative AI Prohibited Use Policy applies.
Where Gemini still lets you down
- Usage limits are vague. Without numbers per day, it is hard to plan heavy work on the free or Plus tiers.
- Plan naming keeps changing (Gemini Advanced, Google One AI Premium, AI Pro), which confuses buyers and older tutorials.
- Human review retention of up to three years will worry anyone pasting sensitive data with Keep Activity on.
- Full Veo 3.1 video and Project Genie sit behind the ₹6,500 Ultra plan.
- Consumer support is mostly the help centre and community forum, with no live chat for free users.
Why is Gemini not working or not responding?
The common causes are hitting your 5-hour or weekly usage limit, a feature not yet rolled out in your country or language, an age restriction (Deep Research needs 18+), or Workspace admin settings that block Gemini on a work account. Signing out and back in, updating the app, switching to a personal account and checking the Gemini Apps Help centre fix most cases.
Setting up Gemini on your phone and laptop
- Sign in at gemini.google.com or install the Google Gemini app from the Play Store or App Store.
- Go to Settings and decide on Keep Activity before you share any work files.
- Try Deep Research and Nano Banana on the free plan for a week to judge the quality.
- If you hit limits, start with AI Plus at ₹399 and move to AI Pro only if you need Gemini 4 Argon or the 1M context.
- Developers can grab a free API key in Google AI Studio. Note that Gemini CLI was replaced by Antigravity CLI for free and Google One users in June 2026.

Google Gemini FAQ
What is Google Gemini and how does it work?
Google Gemini is Google's AI assistant and the family of models behind it, built by Google DeepMind. You give it text, voice, images or files and it replies with text, code, images or video. The newest model, Gemini 4 Argon, is on the AI Pro and Ultra plans, while free users get a Flash-Lite model.
How much does Google AI Pro cost in India?
Google AI Pro costs ₹1,950 per month in India according to Google's India subscriptions page, and $19.99 in the US. It includes Gemini 4 Argon, 4x the free usage limits, a 1-million-token context window and 5 TB of Google storage. The cheaper AI Plus plan costs ₹399 a month.
Is Gemini free to use and what are the limits?
Yes, Gemini has a free plan with chat, image generation, Deep Research, Gemini Live and Canvas. Google does not publish a fixed daily count; limits are compute-based, refresh every 5 hours and have a weekly cap. Free accounts also get a smaller 32k-token context window and no video generation.
How do I use Gemini Deep Research?
Open gemini.google.com, choose Deep Research from the add-files menu in the prompt box, pick your sources and type your question. Gemini shows a plan you can edit, then researches for about 5 to 10 minutes. You can export the finished report to Google Docs or turn it into an Audio Overview.
Is Gemini safe and does it store my data?
Google stores Gemini activity for 18 months by default when Keep Activity is on, and it may use those chats to train its models. Some chats are reviewed by humans and kept for up to three years, separate from your account. Turning Keep Activity off or using temporary chats limits storage to 72 hours with no training use.
Gemini vs ChatGPT vs Claude: which is best?
It depends on your work. Gemini suits Google Workspace users and long documents, ChatGPT has the biggest library of custom GPTs, and Claude is strong for writing and coding. Each paid tier costs about $20 a month, so trying the free plans first is sensible.
Is Gemini available in India in Hindi?
Yes, Gemini works in India and supports Hindi plus Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. Gemini Live has supported Hindi voice chat since late 2024. Paid plans are priced in rupees on Google's India subscriptions page.
How do I create images with Gemini?
Type a description such as "a poster for a Diwali sale in flat illustration style" into the Gemini app and it generates the image with Google's Nano Banana 2 model. You can then ask for edits in plain language. Paid plans also let you redo an image with Nano Banana Pro for higher quality.
What are the best Gemini alternatives?
The main alternatives are ChatGPT from OpenAI, Claude from Anthropic, Microsoft Copilot and Perplexity. ChatGPT Plus and Claude Pro both cost $20 a month. Copilot fits Microsoft 365 users, while Perplexity focuses on cited search answers.
Why is Gemini not working or not responding?
The usual reasons are reaching your 5-hour or weekly usage limit, a feature not available in your region or language, age restrictions, or a Workspace admin blocking Gemini on a work account. Updating the app, signing in with a personal Google account and checking the Gemini Apps Help centre solves most problems.
