What is ChatGPT?

ChatGPT is the AI assistant from OpenAI and the product that brought large language models to the mainstream in late 2022. Today it is a full workspace: you can chat, upload PDFs and spreadsheets, browse the web for current information, generate images, talk to it by voice and build reusable custom GPTs for repeated tasks.

What it does well

For a web development or marketing team, ChatGPT covers a surprising amount of daily work: drafting client proposals and emails, outlining blog posts, rewriting copy for different audiences, explaining error messages, writing small scripts and regular expressions, and summarising long documents. File uploads make it useful for quick data checks, such as cleaning a CSV or spotting trends in an exported analytics report.

Plans and limits

The free plan gives access to OpenAI's current models with usage caps that reset over time. Paid individual plans raise those caps and unlock more capable reasoning models, longer context and advanced features such as deep research and video. Business plans add shared workspaces, admin controls and a commitment that business data is not used for model training by default. In India, OpenAI also introduced a lower-priced plan aimed at local users.

Things to watch

Like every AI model, ChatGPT can produce confident but wrong answers, so facts, code and figures need checking before they reach a client. Consumer conversations may be used to improve models unless you switch this off in settings, which matters if you paste client data. Heavy users on the free plan will hit limits during busy periods.

Who should use it

If you want a single AI tool that handles writing, coding help and research reasonably well, ChatGPT is the default starting point. Teams handling sensitive client data should look at the Business or Enterprise plans for stronger data controls.
