Our verdict
Bolt.new is a quick way to get a real, editable full-stack app running without setting up a machine, and the free tier is generous enough for a proper trial. Budget for token use to climb as projects grow, turn off model training if you build for clients, and compare Lovable's pooled credits if you are a team.
How this score works: the DevMixa score is research-based — we compare official pricing, features, documentation, support options, security and data policies, and public user feedback against other tools in the same category. It is not a hands-on test; tools we test ourselves are marked “Tested”.
What is Bolt.new?
Bolt.new's free plan opens with a simple hook: 1 million tokens a month to turn a chat prompt into a running web or mobile app, with no card and nothing to install. This Bolt.new AI app builder review and pricing guide looks at what those tokens buy, where the bill climbs, and how Bolt compares with Lovable and v0 for founders, freelancers and small agencies in India and elsewhere. Everything here comes from Bolt's pricing page, its help centre and the StackBlitz legal pages, read on 21 October 2026.
WebContainers explain why there is nothing to set up
Bolt is built by StackBlitz, the San Francisco company that created WebContainers. That technology runs Node.js inside your browser tab, so the dev server, the package installs and the live preview all happen on your own machine without a local toolchain. Ask for a booking page for a yoga studio and Bolt writes the files and shows the result beside the chat.
The help centre pitches it at everyone from product managers and marketers to experienced developers. In practice it behaves like a full stack AI builder with an editor attached. You can open Code view and change any file by hand, which matters because hand edits cost zero tokens.
Two build agents sit in the picker. Standard is the quick, frugal one and the only option on the free plan. Max spends more reasoning on each step and needs a paid plan. Bolt does not name the underlying models for either agent; its docs say model choice is handled behind the scenes. Accounts with access also see Bolt Forge, a third agent built on open-source models. It is not offered on Teams or Enterprise, and the training opt-out described below does not cover work done in Forge.
The Bolt.new free tokens limit: 1M a month, 300K a day
The free allowance resets on the 1st of every calendar month, but you cannot spend it in one sitting. A 300K daily cap applies, and anything left over at midnight is gone. Free tokens never roll over. When you hit the daily ceiling, the help docs suggest editing in Code view (still free), waiting for the reset or upgrading.
Other free-tier rules:
- Public and private projects are both allowed, and databases are unlimited.
- Uploads stop at 10MB, against 100MB on Pro.
- Hosting covers 10 GB of bandwidth and 333,333 web requests a month, which Bolt estimates at roughly 10,000 to 15,000 visits.
- Published sites carry a "Made in Bolt" badge, and help comes from the community only.
- The newest models and the Max agent stay locked.
The hosting cap is a hard stop. If a free site crosses it, the site goes offline until the next cycle. Fine for a portfolio, risky for a landing page backed by paid ads.
Why a growing project eats more tokens per message
According to Bolt's token FAQ, most consumption does not come from your prompt or the code Bolt writes back. It comes from syncing the project's file system to the model so it has context. A ten-file prototype is cheap to talk to. A sixty-file app with a database layer, auth screens and a component library costs noticeably more for the same one-line request, because more of the project gets read on every turn.
Bolt's token efficiency guide comes down to a few habits: plan the build in Plan Mode before generating code, keep projects lean, fix small things like a wrong colour or a typo in Code view, and use visual edits, which charge tokens only when you save. Check token usage after big prompts.
Bolt.new pricing tokens, plan by plan
Every paid tier is a token bundle. The pricing page leads with annual rates ($18 a month for Pro, $27 per member for Teams) and strikes through the full yearly totals of $300 and $360; that gap is Bolt's standard yearly-billing discount, not a sale. The table uses monthly-billing prices from the billing docs, with rupees at about ₹94.7 to the dollar. Bolt has no INR price list.
| Plan | Price (USD) | Approx. INR | Tokens | What changes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | ₹0 | 1M/month, 300K/day | Standard agent, Bolt badge, community help |
| Pro 10M | $25/mo ($216/yr) | approx. ₹2,368/mo | 10M/month, no daily cap | Custom domain, no badge, Max agent, newest models, email support |
| Pro 50 | $50/mo | approx. ₹4,735/mo | 26M/month | Same features, bigger bundle ($540/yr on annual) |
| Pro 100 | $100/mo | approx. ₹9,470/mo | 55M/month | Same features, bigger bundle |
| Teams | $30 per member/mo ($27 on annual) | approx. ₹2,841 per member | From 10M per member | Admin controls, team templates, private NPM registries, priority support |
| Enterprise | Custom | Not listed | Billed by consumption | Audit logs, ISO 27001, dedicated infrastructure, account manager |
Paid tokens reset on your renewal date, carry no daily cap and stay usable for two months from the start of the cycle that granted them, as long as you remain subscribed; the oldest tokens are spent first. Cancel, and all of them go once the billing period ends. Top-up reloads exist only on the highest monthly Pro tier and on annual Pro plans, and reloaded tokens never expire. Bolt shows the reload price at checkout rather than publishing it.
The annual trap: you cannot move an annual plan back to monthly, and the terms say fees are non-refundable. Taxes are extra wherever local law adds them.
Bolt Cloud, Supabase or Netlify for the backend and hosting
New projects default to Bolt Cloud, which bundles a database with sign-in, user management, file storage, server functions and secrets, plus hosting on a free bolt.host subdomain. Paid plans add custom domains, which you can also buy inside Bolt. Pro hosting allows 30 GB of bandwidth and 1 million requests a month, and past that it switches to pay-as-you-go up to a spending cap you set, so a traffic spike pauses the site instead of surprising you with an open-ended bill.
If your team already runs Postgres on Supabase, the Supabase integration replaces Bolt's database for data, auth and edge functions, but only on Pro and Teams. A Netlify deploy is a documented alternative to Bolt hosting. GitHub sync connects a repo so commits are backed up outside Bolt, and org admins can restrict which repositories Bolt touches. Stripe handles payments in the apps you build.
Mobile apps and design files
Expo mobile apps are the route to iOS and Android. Bolt turns your description into an Expo project, and its Expo guide covers publishing to the App Store and Google Play. On the design side, Figma import turns a frame into a working app, and Bolt can also pull in Google Stitch designs or a full design system so generated screens follow your brand.
Bolt.new vs Lovable for a small agency
The two sell the same promise, so the difference is the meter. Lovable's free tier gives 5 build credits a day up to 30 a month, and Pro costs $25 a month for 100 credits, charged by message complexity. Bolt's $25 buys 10M tokens charged by how much project context gets processed. On a big, long-running app, Bolt's per-message cost keeps rising with project size, while Lovable's depends more on what you ask for.
Team billing pushes in Lovable's direction. Bolt Teams charges $30 per member and keeps each member's tokens separate, whereas Lovable's plans share one pool across the workspace. Bolt answers with a token-free Code view and an importer for Lovable projects. If you mostly want to talk to an app and never open a file, Lovable feels gentler. If you will drop into the code often, Bolt rewards that.
Bolt.new vs v0 when the job is mostly front end
Vercel's v0 pricing page lists a free plan capped at 7 messages a day, then Plus at $30 per user a month with $30 of monthly credits and $2 of daily login credits, and Business at $100 per user a month. v0 deploys straight to Vercel and is at its best on React and Next.js interfaces. Bolt goes further on the backend, with its own database and auth, Expo for mobile and Supabase. A Next.js shop already paying for Vercel will find v0 the natural fit; a founder who needs a working product with logins and data will get there faster in Bolt.
Who owns the code, and the October 2026 training change
StackBlitz's terms, which cover Bolt as well, say you keep all rights to what you put in, and the company assigns you whatever rights it holds in the AI output. The terms also warn that AI output may not be protectable by copyright and that you must review it before relying on it. Nothing there blocks client work, but using Bolt to build a product that competes with StackBlitz is banned.
The bigger change is training. Since 7 October 2026, prompts, outputs and project files can be used to train AI models, and de-identified datasets may be licensed to third parties, unless you opt out in account settings or by emailing privacy@stackblitz.com. Accounts in the EEA, UK and Switzerland are excluded, as are organisation-managed Teams and Enterprise workspaces. If you build for clients on a personal Pro plan, switch the setting off on day one.
Paying from India: cards in dollars
Bolt's billing page says it accepts credit and debit cards for Pro and Teams, and not PayPal or bank transfers. There is no rupee pricing or UPI option in the docs, so an Indian card with international payments enabled is the practical route. Expect your bank's forex markup on top of the dollar price.
A first build that stays inside the daily cap
- Start in Plan Mode and agree a page list, data model and user flow before any code is written.
- Generate the skeleton with the Standard agent, then add one feature per prompt rather than five.
- Fix copy, colours and spacing with visual edits or Code view.
- Connect GitHub early so every working state is saved outside Bolt.
- Run the security audit from the Publish menu before you share a link, then publish to bolt.host or your own domain.
Bolt.new AI app builder review and pricing: who should pay
Bolt suits freelancers, agency developers and technical founders who want a working prototype in an afternoon and are comfortable reading the code it writes. Pro at $25 makes sense once you need a custom domain and no daily cap; heavy users should look at the 26M tier or an annual plan with reloads. Non-coders who will never open Code view may prefer Lovable, React teams on Vercel should try v0, and anyone who wants a full cloud IDE alongside an agent can compare Replit, whose Core plan costs $20 a month.

Bolt.new FAQ
What is Bolt.new?
Bolt.new is a browser-based AI builder from StackBlitz that turns chat prompts into working websites, web apps and Expo mobile apps. It runs projects on WebContainers, so nothing needs installing, and it bundles hosting, a database and auth through Bolt Cloud.
How much does Bolt.new cost?
The free plan costs nothing. Pro starts at $25 a month (approx. ₹2,368) for 10M tokens, with bigger bundles at $50 for 26M and $100 for 55M. Teams is $30 per member a month, annual billing brings Pro 10M down to $216 a year, and Enterprise is priced by contract.
How many tokens does Bolt.new give for free?
Free accounts get 1 million tokens a month, reset on the 1st, with a daily cap of 300K tokens. Unused free tokens do not roll over. When you hit the cap you can keep editing in Code view, which costs no tokens.
How do you build an app with Bolt.new?
Describe the app in the chat, ideally after planning it in Plan Mode, and Bolt writes the files and shows a live preview. Add features one prompt at a time, fix small details in Code view or with visual edits, connect GitHub for backups, then publish to a bolt.host subdomain or your own domain on a paid plan.
Is code from Bolt.new mine to use?
Yes. The StackBlitz terms say you keep rights to your content and the company assigns you its rights in the AI output, which leaves you free to use it in client and commercial work. The terms add that AI output may not be copyrightable and that you must not use Bolt to build a competing product. Prompts and projects may be used for model training unless you opt out in settings.
Bolt.new vs Lovable: which is better?
Both start at $25 a month. Bolt meters by tokens, so cost rises as a project grows, while Lovable charges credits by message complexity and shares one pool across a workspace. Bolt suits people who will edit code directly; Lovable is gentler for non-coders and often cheaper for small teams.
Can I pay for Bolt.new from India?
Yes, with a credit or debit card that allows international payments. Bolt bills in US dollars, lists no INR pricing or UPI option, and does not accept PayPal or bank transfers. Your bank may add a forex markup, and taxes are added where local law requires.
What are the best Bolt.new alternatives?
Lovable is the closest match for prompt-to-app building with a backend. v0 by Vercel suits React and Next.js front ends, and Replit (Core at $20 a month) pairs an agent with a full cloud IDE. Developers who prefer their own editor often pick Cursor or GitHub Copilot instead.
Why does Bolt.new use so many tokens?
Bolt's help docs say most tokens go on syncing the project's files to the AI so it has context, not on your prompt. Larger projects therefore cost more per message. Planning first, keeping projects lean and making small fixes in Code view all cut usage.
Who is Bolt.new best for?
It fits freelancers, agency developers and technical founders who want a working prototype fast and are happy to read or tweak the generated code. Product managers and marketers can use it for landing pages and internal tools. Teams that need predictable per-seat costs or never want to see code may prefer Lovable.
