Our verdict
Blue Dart is the courier to pick when a shipment must arrive on a fixed morning or needs DHL handling abroad, and its guaranteed slots and own aircraft justify the premium for those cases. Because base freight is quote-only, get written zone rates and compare landed cost with DTDC or Delhivery before moving routine parcels to it.
How this score works: the DevMixa score is research-based — we compare official pricing, features, documentation, support options, security and data policies, and public user feedback against other tools in the same category. It is not a hands-on test; tools we test ourselves are marked “Tested”.
What is Blue Dart?
A Domestic Priority 1030 parcel booked in Pune on a Monday evening can be at a Mumbai or Bengaluru desk by 10:30 the next business morning, and if it is late, Blue Dart credits or refunds the freight, TDD premium and fuel surcharge. That promise, rather than a low price, is what most buyers are paying for. This blue dart courier rates and services review covers what Blue Dart Express publishes in October 2026 (products, time-definite add-on charges, conditions of carriage, the self-serve account and the API on DHL's developer portal) and the one thing it does not: a public rate card for base freight.
Who ships with Blue Dart, and why it is part of DHL Group
Blue Dart Express Ltd was set up in 1983 by three entrepreneurs with a capital of ₹30,000, listed on the stock market in 1994 and came under DHL in 2005, when DHL Express (Singapore) bought 81.03% of the equity. DHL trimmed that to 75% in 2012 to meet statutory requirements. Today the investor site places the company in DHL Group's DHL eCommerce division and gives its address as Blue Dart Centre, Sahar Airport Road, Andheri (East), Mumbai. It also runs its own airline, Blue Dart Aviation, which is why air cargo sits at the centre of its product list.
According to an October 2025 company release, the domestic network covers more than 56,400 locations in India, and the DHL tie-up gives access to over 220 countries and territories. The typical customer is a business with documents or stock that must arrive on a known day: pharma distributors, banks sending originals, electronics brands moving spares, and D2C sellers who want a premium option at checkout.
The product menu: Domestic Priority, Dart Apex, Surfaceline and more
- Domestic Priority: the flagship door-to-door air product for documents and small parcels, with free pickup, regulatory clearance, real-time tracking and free computerised proof of delivery. Two guaranteed slots sit on top of it: 1030 (next possible business day by 10:30 at select pin codes in Chennai, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bangalore, Navi Mumbai and Gurgaon) and 1200 (by 12:00 in cities such as Pune, Thane, Noida, Hyderabad and Kolkata).
- Critical Express: a door-to-door courier for passports, tenders, property papers and original certificates, under 32 kg per package, with secure handling.
- Dart Apex: time-definite air delivery for commercial shipments of 10 kg and above, uplifted the same night for early-morning delivery in major metros. Airport-to-door and door-to-airport options run from seven metros.
- Dart Surfaceline: the ground express network, launched in 2007 with time-bound deliveries, for heavier, less urgent loads.
- Bharat Dart (formerly Dart Plus), eCom Lite Surface, Smart Box, Express Pallet, charters and temperature-controlled logistics for specialist needs.
Payment options on Dart Apex include COD (cash collected from the consignee and remitted to the shipper), demand draft on delivery and freight on delivery. Freight on Value (FOV) insurance can be arranged for declared value.
Blue Dart express rate per kg: what the site actually publishes
Blue Dart does not post a base tariff by weight and zone. Your freight is either quoted by its sales team for a credit account, picked from one of the predefined plans during digital onboarding, or shown by the Transit Time and Price Finder on the home page for a specific origin, destination and weight. What it does publish, in the service guide and on the Apex product page, are time-definite charges, each labelled as payable in addition to freight and other charges.
| Product | Published charge | What it buys |
|---|---|---|
| Domestic Priority 1030 / 1200 | ₹150 for the first 500 g, ₹75 per extra 500 g | Guaranteed delivery by 10:30 or 12:00, money-back on delay |
| Critical Express | ₹100 for the first 500 g, ₹50 per extra 500 g | Secure door-to-door handling for critical papers |
| Dart Apex 1200 | ₹99 per kg, minimum ₹990 | Apex 10 kg-plus loads on the 1200 slot, money-back on delay |
| Base freight (all products) | Not published | Quoted per account or via the Price Finder |
Two other cost drivers matter. Air products use volumetric weight (length x width x height in cm divided by 5,000), and Surface counts 1 cubic foot as 10 kg, with the higher of actual or dimensional weight charged. A fuel surcharge also applies and changes over time, so this review does not quote a figure. Add GST to everything.
Blue Dart Apex vs Dart Plus (now Bharat Dart)
The old comparison between dart apex and dart plus needs an update, because Blue Dart renamed Dart Plus as Bharat Dart in September 2023. The company positions Bharat Dart as a time-sensitive service with last-mile visibility and simple payment options for small businesses and MSMEs, with a stated focus on tier II and tier III towns. Its weight bands and mode are not spelled out in the announcement.
Dart Apex is different in purpose. It is a B2B air product for consignments from 10 kg up that need regulatory clearance or special handling, booked through customer service, with the shipper paying the transport charges. Moving 40 kg of medical devices from Chennai to Delhi for a morning installation? Apex fits. If you are an MSME in Indore sending smaller cartons across the country, ask the sales team to quote Bharat Dart and Surfaceline side by side.
Opening an account in ten minutes, then booking pickups
A Digital Account Opening flow has been live on the site since October 2025. The release describes five steps: profile creation, plan selection, KYC, an Aadhaar-enabled agreement and a recharge of the Digital Prepaid Card. You can then ship straight away on one of three predefined plans or ask for a custom one.
Pickup scheduling works through three routes. Registered customers can ask customer service (the site header lists 022 4061 1234), Dart Apex bookings go through customer service by design, and developers can automate it with the Register for Pickup API. InternetDart shows a registered user's shipments from the last 90 days, with filters and downloads, and ImageDart posts proof of delivery for Apex and Surfaceline about 48 hours after delivery.
The DHL-hosted Blue Dart API for waybills and tracking
Older guides mention ShipDart, a stand-alone program installed at the customer's premises, plus ShopTrack and PackTrack for tracking inside your own site. Those still appear on the business integrations page. The current route for developers is the DHL Developer Portal, where Blue Dart lists APIs for waybill generation, pickup registration and cancellation, shipment tracking, transit time, location finder and product details. Calls are JSON over HTTP POST, each one needs a JWT generated from your app's consumer key and secret, and the request body also carries your Blue Dart login ID and licence key. So an active customer account comes first. The company's 2024 milestones also mention a Unified Shipping API platform.
Blue Dart international shipping rates and the DHL surcharges behind them
International parcels from India move on DHL Express products sold through Blue Dart: Express Worldwide for documents and for dutiable goods, Express Easy Box with flat fees for boxes up to 10 kg and 25 kg, Import Express Worldwide for collections from more than 214 countries, Express Pallet (up to 100 kg) and Express Easy Student. Base international rates are not listed; the page sends you to the Price Finder or a sales contact.
The international services page does print some surcharges, but the clearest ones sit in its Express Easy Student section. For that student service, Blue Dart lists a ₹1,400 clearance charge on commercial shipments and remote-area delivery at ₹24 per kg with a ₹1,550 minimum. The same page also mentions ₹2,750 for a single piece over 70 kg or 120 cm and ₹900 for an address correction. Duties and taxes at destination are extra. If you are booking Express Worldwide, Easy Box or any other international product, confirm which surcharges apply with Blue Dart before you ship, because on low-value exports fixed amounts like these can outweigh the freight.
Damage, loss and the ₹5,000 liability cap
The domestic conditions of carriage are blunt. Shipments travel at owner's risk, and without insurance Blue Dart's liability for Domestic Priority, Air Express, Surface and P2P is the lower of ₹5,000 or the actual loss. A claim must be made in writing at the Blue Dart office nearest the point of booking within 30 days of acceptance, and it is not considered until all charges are paid. If the goods are worth more, pay for FOV insurance at booking. Settlement then follows the insurer's surveyor. Hazardous goods, bullion, currency, firearms and similar items are not accepted.
On privacy, the policy says personal data such as names, phone numbers and addresses may be processed by DHL Group companies and transferred to countries where the group operates. A named Data Protection and Grievance Officer can be reached at dpobde@bluedart.com.
Blue Dart vs DTDC for a small seller sending 30 parcels a week
DTDC is the usual cheaper alternative. For a seller shipping 30 non-urgent parcels a week, DTDC or an aggregator rate will often come in lower. The premium is earned on guaranteed express delivery, its own aircraft, the money-back slots and DHL-backed international service. The sensible test is to put the same five sample shipments (weight, dimensions, origin and destination pin codes) through both carriers' quotes and compare the landed cost including fuel surcharge and GST.
Against Delhivery, the trade-off is similar. Delhivery is built for high-volume e-commerce (its own page claims 18,500+ serviceable pincodes), while Blue Dart suits shipments where a missed day costs more than the freight: pharma, legal papers, high-value electronics. Many brands use both.
Where the blue dart courier rates and services review score lands
Our research score is 3.5 out of 5. Services and network depth are strong (4.2), with air, surface, international, COD and a documented API. Value is the weak point (2.8) because base rates are hidden and the premium is real. Ease scores 3.0: the new account flow helps, but the website is dated and many tasks still route through customer service. Support gets 3.6 for the phone line, a named grievance officer and clear written conditions, held back by the low default liability.
Who should use it? Shippers of time-critical documents or goods, B2B senders of 10 kg-plus metro consignments and exporters wanting DHL handling with Indian billing. Light, non-urgent parcels usually travel cheaper elsewhere.
Five things to do before signing a Blue Dart contract
- Run three or four real lanes through the Transit Time and Price Finder and ask for written base freight per zone.
- Check that your key destination pin codes are serviced, and which ones get the 1030 or 1200 slot, using the Location Finder.
- Ask for the current fuel surcharge and whether COD remittance has a fee or a fixed cycle.
- Decide on FOV insurance for anything worth more than ₹5,000.
- If you have a store or ERP, request API credentials early, since the login ID and licence key come with the account.

Blue Dart FAQ
What is Blue Dart Express?
Blue Dart Express Ltd is a Mumbai-headquartered express courier and logistics company founded in 1983 and listed on Indian stock exchanges. It is part of DHL Group's DHL eCommerce division, runs its own airline, Blue Dart Aviation, and says it reaches more than 56,400 locations in India and over 220 countries and territories through DHL.
How much does Blue Dart charge for 5 kg?
Blue Dart does not publish a base rate card, so the freight for 5 kg depends on your lane, product and account plan; use the Transit Time and Price Finder on bluedart.com or ask sales for a quote. Charges are based on the higher of actual or volumetric weight (cm dimensions divided by 5,000 for air). If you add the Domestic Priority 1030 or 1200 guarantee, the published add-on for 5 kg works out to ₹825 (₹150 plus nine extra half-kilos at ₹75), on top of freight, fuel surcharge and GST.
How do I schedule a Blue Dart pickup?
Account holders can request a pickup through Blue Dart customer service, and Dart Apex bookings are made through customer service by design. Businesses with an integration can use the Register for Pickup API on the DHL Developer Portal. Domestic Priority includes free pickup from your location.
Does Blue Dart offer COD?
Yes. Blue Dart lists cash on delivery for Dart Apex, where the invoice value is collected from the consignee and passed back to the shipper, along with demand draft on delivery and freight on delivery options. COD terms, such as remittance cycle and fees, are set in your account agreement, so confirm them with sales.
Blue Dart vs Delhivery: which is better?
It depends on the shipment. Blue Dart is the stronger pick for time-definite air delivery, guaranteed 10:30 or 12:00 slots, critical documents and DHL-backed international parcels. Delhivery is generally chosen for high-volume, price-sensitive e-commerce, so many brands use Blue Dart only for urgent or high-value orders.
Is Blue Dart expensive?
Blue Dart is usually priced above mass-market couriers, and it does not publish base freight, which makes comparison harder. Time-definite slots, insurance (FOV), fuel surcharge and GST all add to the bill. The premium buys faster air uplift, guaranteed delivery windows with money-back terms and DHL's international network.
How do I claim for a damaged Blue Dart parcel?
Submit a written claim to the Blue Dart office nearest the point of booking within 30 days of the acceptance date, and make sure all charges are paid first. Without insurance, liability is the lower of ₹5,000 or the actual loss. If you paid for Freight on Value insurance, the insurer's surveyor assesses the loss and settles the claim.
How long does Blue Dart take to deliver?
Domestic Priority 1030 and 1200 promise delivery by 10:30 or 12:00 on the next possible business day at select pin codes, with a money-back guarantee if late. Dart Apex shipments are flown the same night for early-morning delivery in major metros. Surface and other lanes take longer, and the Transit Time Finder on bluedart.com gives the expected time for a specific route.
What are the best Blue Dart alternatives for businesses?
DTDC and Delhivery are the main Indian alternatives, usually cheaper for non-urgent parcels and e-commerce volume. Multi-courier aggregators let you compare several carriers in one dashboard. For international shipments, DHL Express is effectively the same network that Blue Dart resells.
Who should use Blue Dart?
Blue Dart suits businesses whose shipments are time-critical or high-value: pharma, banking and legal documents, electronics spares, B2B consignments above 10 kg and exporters who want DHL handling. Sellers with light, low-margin parcels and flexible delivery dates will usually find cheaper options.
