Our verdict
Murf is a solid choice for teams that make narrated videos every week and need Hindi or Indian English voices inside a proper studio editor. Solo creators who want cheap cloning or API-heavy work will get more value from ElevenLabs.
How this score works: the DevMixa score is research-based — we compare official pricing, features, documentation, support options, security and data policies, and public user feedback against other tools in the same category. It is not a hands-on test; tools we test ourselves are marked “Tested”.
What is Murf AI?
Murf AI is a browser-based voiceover studio built by Murf Inc., a company started in October 2020 by three IIT Kharagpur graduates. This guide covers murf ai voices and pricing for voiceovers as listed in October 2026: what each plan includes, how the free tier works, where Hindi and other Indian languages fit, and how it compares with ElevenLabs and Speechify for people who make explainer videos, training modules, ads and podcasts.
What Murf AI does and who it suits
At its core, Murf turns typed scripts into spoken audio. You paste text, pick a voice, adjust delivery and export. Murf's homepage lists more than 200 voices across 35+ languages, plus separate products for dubbing, a voice changer, voice cloning and a developer API.
The studio is the part most buyers will use. It works like a slim video editor: your script sits in blocks, each block gets a voice, and you can drop in a video or slides so the narration lines up with what is on screen. That video sync is the reason e-learning teams and YouTube explainer channels pick Murf over plain text to speech readers.
Typical users include:
- Course creators and L&D teams producing narrated modules in English and Hindi
- Marketing teams making product demos, ads and social clips
- Agencies that need the same voice across many client videos
- Developers who want a low-cost speech API for voice agents
Key features in practice
Murf's studio voices come with controls for pitch and emphasis, speed, pauses and pronunciation. You can stress a single word, slow down a product name or add a two-second break before a call to action. Many Gen 2 voices also offer speaking styles such as conversational, narration, promo and storytelling, so one narrator can sound calm in a tutorial and punchy in an ad.
Other tools inside the platform:
- Voice changer: record your own read, then swap it for a studio voice while keeping your timing.
- AI dubbing: translate and re-voice existing videos.
- Integrations: Murf lists add-ons for Canva, Google Slides, PowerPoint and Adobe Captivate.
- Exports: the API supports MP3, WAV, FLAC, OGG and telephony formats like ULAW and ALAW.
The underlying models matter if you plan to build with Murf. Gen 2 is the studio-quality model with the most customisation, and Murf's API docs say it now runs through the non-streaming Synthesize Speech endpoint. Falcon 2 is the streaming model built for real-time voice agents, with Murf claiming under 100 ms to first audio.
Murf AI voices and pricing for voiceovers, plan by plan
Murf's pricing page builds its plan table with JavaScript, so the figures below come from Murf's text to speech page and its help center. Prices are in US dollars. We could not confirm a separate rupee price list from an official Murf page, so Indian buyers should expect a USD charge on their card unless checkout shows otherwise.
| Plan | Billed annually | Monthly billing and usage |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 10 minutes of generation, 2 projects, 1 editor, no downloads |
| Creator | From $19/mo | Check the pricing page |
| Business | From $66/mo | Check the pricing page |
| Enterprise | Custom | Custom |
Murf quotes Creator and Business as starting prices on annual billing, which works out to $228 and $792 a year. It does not publish month-to-month prices or per-plan hour allowances anywhere a plain fetch can read, and third-party sites quote different numbers, so check the pricing page for monthly rates and generation limits before you buy. Students, educational institutions and non-profits can ask for a 20% discount, according to Murf's FAQ.
Read the fine print on generation time. Murf's FAQ says time bought with a plan stays valid only for the current subscription term, so unused minutes do not roll over when you renew. Extra editor seats are sold as add-ons, and larger teams that need SSO and an account manager are steered to Enterprise.
For developers, Murf prices Falcon at $0.01 per minute of generated audio, with no tiers. Murf's API page says this cuts deployment costs by up to 50%, a vendor claim worth testing against your own volumes. We could not find a published per-minute rate for Gen 2 through the API, so ask sales if you need it.
What the Murf AI free plan limits look like
The free tier needs no credit card. Murf lists 10 minutes of voice generation, two projects and one editor, and its help center adds 10 minutes of transcription plus access to the full voice library, so you can audition narrators before paying.
Ten minutes is enough to test a voice on a real script, try the pitch controls and see how video sync behaves. It is not enough for a finished course. More importantly, Murf's help center says the free trial does not support downloads (you can only share a preview or embed link), so treat it as a test drive rather than a production plan.
Range of Murf AI Hindi voices and other Indian languages
For Indian buyers this is a strong point. Murf's Hindi page claims more than 40 Hindi voices, with names such as Shaan, Rahul, Neel, Shweta, Naina and Jaya, in male and female options across young and middle-aged tones. Styles include conversational, narration, promo and storytelling.
Beyond Hindi, Murf lists Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi and Bengali. There is also a set of Indian English voices (Surya, Rohan, Shivani and Priya are shown on the page), which sound more natural to local audiences than an American narrator reading a product name like "Paytm". Murf does not publish per-language voice counts for the regional languages, so check the library for your language before committing to a yearly plan.
How Murf AI voice cloning works
Murf offers voice cloning in two forms. Instant cloning works from short audio samples, while professional cloning needs a larger set of clean recordings. The cloning page asks how much data you have (under or over 30 minutes) and routes serious requests to its sales team.
Murf's pricing copy lists cloning among paid-plan features but does not publish a cloning price or say which tier includes it. Its terms require explicit written consent from any speaker whose voice you upload, and they ban unauthorised recordings. If cloning is your main need, ElevenLabs is more open about it.
Murf AI vs ElevenLabs and Speechify
| Point | Murf | ElevenLabs | Speechify Studio |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free tier | 10 minutes, no downloads | 10k credits a month (about 10 minutes), non-commercial | 600 credits, no commercial rights |
| Entry paid plan | $19/mo yearly | Starter $6/mo | Starter $100/year |
| Self-serve cloning | Paid plans, price not published | Instant cloning from Starter, professional from Creator ($22/mo) | Not listed on pricing page |
| Strength | Studio editor with video sync | Voice realism, cloning, API depth | Low yearly cost, 1,000+ voices |
ElevenLabs costs less to start and gives far more cloning control. Its Starter plan includes a commercial licence and instant cloning for $6 a month. Murf's advantage is the studio. Timing narration against slides, setting emphasis word by word and handing the project to a colleague is simpler in Murf than in ElevenLabs' credit-based setup.
Speechify Studio is cheaper on paper. Its Starter plan is $100 a year for 86,400 credits, and voiceover uses one credit per second, so that is also 24 hours of audio a year. Hindi is among its roughly 20 voiceover languages, but Murf has deeper regional Indian coverage.
So which is better? For a solo creator who mainly needs realistic English narration, a cloned voice or API work on a tight budget, ElevenLabs gives more for less money. For a training team or agency that builds narrated videos every week, wants slide and video timing in one editor, and needs Hindi plus several regional Indian languages, Murf is the more practical pick, even at a higher entry price. Speechify Studio suits buyers who want the lowest yearly bill and can live with fewer editing controls.
Other alternatives worth a look include WellSaid Labs for corporate narration and Google's or Microsoft's cloud speech APIs for pure developer use.
Privacy, data and commercial license
Murf's terms state that you can use Murf-created voices for commercial purposes, but you cannot resell the voices themselves or use the output to train other AI models. Murf's text to speech page promises full commercial usage rights for generated audio. Since the free trial cannot download audio, you will need Creator or above before publishing client work.
On data, the privacy policy says Murf deletes account data, including uploaded projects and media, within 30 days of account closure, with some exceptions for legal needs. Neither the terms nor the privacy policy say whether customer content is used to train Murf's models. The API pages list SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR and HIPAA compliance, which helps with enterprise procurement.
Limitations to weigh
- The free tier blocks downloads, so you cannot judge final export quality without paying.
- Unused generation time expires with the subscription term.
- Cloning pricing is not public, and self-serve access is unclear.
- No official rupee pricing we could confirm.
- Monthly prices and hour limits are not readable without JavaScript, and third-party sites quote conflicting numbers, so confirm at checkout.
How to get started
Create a free account on murf.ai and open a new studio project. Paste a 150-word section of your real script, not a demo line, and try three voices, including at least one Indian English or Hindi narrator if your audience is in India. Use the pitch and emphasis controls on product names, then upload a short video clip and sync the blocks to it.
If the result holds up, pick Creator on annual billing for solo work, or talk to sales if you need cloning or several editors. Developers should grab a free API key and test Falcon 2 latency from their own region before writing production code.
If an export or download fails, check that you still have generation time left, let the render finish fully, and retry in another browser before raising a ticket with Murf support.

Murf AI FAQ
What is Murf AI used for?
Murf turns written scripts into spoken voiceovers for explainer videos, e-learning modules, ads, presentations and podcasts. Its studio lets you sync narration to video or slides, and it also offers dubbing, a voice changer, voice cloning and a speech API for developers.
How much does Murf AI cost per month?
Murf's text to speech page lists Creator from $19 a month and Business from $66 a month, both billed annually. Murf does not publish monthly-billed prices in a form we could confirm, so check the pricing page for those. Enterprise is custom, and the Falcon API costs $0.01 per minute of audio.
Can I use Murf AI for free?
Yes. The free plan needs no credit card and includes 10 minutes of voice generation, two projects and one editor, with access to the voice library. Murf's help center says the free trial does not support downloads, so it works only as a trial.
How do I add a voiceover to a video in Murf?
Open a studio project, paste your script and assign a voice to each block. Upload your video, then line up each script block with the right scene using the timeline, adjust pauses or speed where needed, and export the finished file.
Can Murf AI voices be used commercially?
Murf's terms allow commercial use of Murf-created voices, though you cannot resell the voices or use the audio to train any AI model. Because the free trial cannot download audio, you need a paid plan such as Creator before publishing client or monetised work.
Murf AI vs ElevenLabs: which is better?
ElevenLabs is cheaper to start ($6 a month for Starter) and far stronger for voice cloning and API work. Murf is better for teams that build narrated videos in a studio editor with video sync and need Hindi plus regional Indian languages.
Does Murf AI have Hindi voices?
Yes. Murf's Hindi page claims more than 40 Hindi voices, including Shaan, Rahul, Shweta and Naina, with styles like narration, promo and conversational. It also lists Indian English voices and languages such as Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Bengali and Gujarati.
What are the best Murf AI alternatives?
ElevenLabs is the main alternative for realism, cloning and API use, and Speechify Studio is a lower-cost option at $100 a year for its Starter plan. WellSaid Labs suits corporate narration, while Google and Microsoft cloud speech APIs suit pure developer use.
How do I fix a Murf AI download that is not working?
Murf runs in the browser, so most download problems relate to the project export. Check that you still have generation time on your plan, wait for the render to finish, and try another browser. If the file still fails, contact Murf support with the project name.
Who is Murf AI best for?
Murf suits course creators, L&D teams, marketing teams and agencies that produce narrated videos regularly and want an editor with video sync and fine voice controls. Developers building voice agents can also use its low-cost Falcon API.
