Our verdict
Juspay makes sense for large Indian apps that already run several gateways and lose real money on failed payments; its routing, checkout SDKs and UPI depth are hard to match. Most pricing is on request and the payoff depends on volume, so smaller merchants should stick with a single gateway or look at the free Hyperswitch edition.
How this score works: the DevMixa score is research-based — we compare official pricing, features, documentation, support options, security and data policies, and public user feedback against other tools in the same category. It is not a hands-on test; tools we test ourselves are marked “Tested”.
What is Juspay?
More than 300 million transactions a day pass through Juspay's stack, the company says, and the logos on its India site read like the home screen of a typical Indian phone: Swiggy, Zepto, Myntra, BookMyShow, IndiGo, Urban Company. Hardly any of those shoppers ever see the Juspay name. This Juspay payment orchestration review and use cases guide explains what that hidden layer does, why its price is hard to pin down, and which businesses gain from adding it on top of an ordinary gateway.
Short answer first. Juspay is not where you go for your first payment link. It is software that sits between your checkout and several gateways at once, decides which one should carry each payment, and gives you one SDK and one dashboard for all of them. That is worth paying for when your volume is high enough that a one-point drop in success rate costs lakhs.
What sits under the Juspay name in 2026
Juspay Technologies was founded in 2012 (its own newsroom and The Fintech Times both give that year) and is headquartered in Bengaluru, with offices in San Mateo, Dublin, Singapore, Dubai and São Paulo listed on its about page. The India product menu now covers:
- HyperCheckout, a ready-made payment screen for apps and websites.
- Express Checkout, the headless SDK and REST API for teams that want to draw their own payment UI.
- Routing and orchestration across what Juspay counts as 300+ gateways, aggregators and local methods.
- UPI 360, which ranges from one-tap UPI inside a merchant app to a full stack for apps that want to become UPI apps themselves.
- Tokenisation, an offers engine, payouts, HyperCredit and NACH mandates through LotusPay.
- HyperPG, its own payment aggregator business.
In January 2026 it took $50 million from WestBridge Capital as a Series D follow-on, a round its about page and newsroom both describe. Juspay says 500+ enterprises use it, and that number tells you who the sales team is built for.
Juspay HyperCheckout features that move conversion
HyperCheckout is the part most merchants touch first. You get a branded payment page whose layout, theme, method order and offer text can be changed in a no-code Design Studio (Juspay mentions 100+ options) instead of shipping an app update. The useful details are smaller than the marketing:
- One-click card payments on tokenised cards, with no CVV prompt.
- Configurable auto-retry, so a declined attempt can be offered again through another route.
- QuickPay, a half-page checkout for returning users that skips the redirect.
- Live outage alerts, so a bank or UPI app that is down can be flagged before the customer taps it.
- Standard and advanced EMI suites, CRED Pay, Amazon Pay, UPI Autopay and card mandates, all documented.
The docs list eight ways to integrate: Android (Java or Kotlin), iOS 12 and later, web, iFrame web, Flutter, React Native, Cordova and Capacitor.
How Juspay smart routing picks a gateway
The docs call this Dynamic Routing. You connect two or more processors (a bank PG, an aggregator, whoever you hold contracts with and Juspay supports), set business rules, and the engine sends each payment to the best-performing option inside those rules. The documentation is plain about the catch: the feature needs the merchant to be associated with more than one payment processor. One gateway means nothing to route.
On its product pages Juspay says routing can raise success rates "by up to 10%" and cut processing cost, and a testimonial on the HyperCheckout page talks of nearly 20%. Read both as vendor claims. Your own uplift depends on how shaky your current gateway mix is. In practice the Juspay payment success rate story is about dodging bad routes, such as a bank having a rough hour or an issuer that keeps failing on one acquirer, rather than squeezing more out of a single healthy gateway.
Check which gateways will actually plug in. PhonePe cut its Juspay tie-up in December 2024, and in January 2025 Razorpay and Cashfree told Inc42 and Entrackr they would move away from integrations through third-party routers. Juspay replied that merchants, not gateways, pay its bills. Get the current list of supported processors from sales in writing.
Juspay UPI SDK integration and the BHIM back story
UPI is where Juspay's history runs deepest. Its UPI page says the team designed and built the BHIM app and the core UPI two-factor SDK in 2016. A YourStory profile from February 2017 backs up the BHIM part, crediting Juspay alongside NPCI with the app's design and development; the SDK credit rests on Juspay's own timeline. The current UPI 360 line has three layers: HyperUPI for one-click UPI inside a merchant app, a UPI stack (SDK or server-to-server) for merchant, TPAP and PPI apps that want their own UPI handle, and an acquiring and issuing stack for banks. Juspay quotes 90%+ UPI success and 125 million+ UPI transactions a day on these stacks; again, those are its figures, not audited ones.
The Juspay Android SDK is the documented path for HyperUPI and the TPAP SDK, and the docs index lists Android guides for both. For most merchants the lighter option is UPI intent through HyperCheckout (intent on mobile web is a listed feature), which opens the buyer's UPI app without anyone typing a VPA.
Juspay payment orchestration pricing: mostly on request
The general India pricing URL (juspay.io/in/pricing, where juspay.in/pricing also redirects) showed a 404 page on 21 October 2026. The pricing button on the HyperCheckout page points somewhere else: a HyperCheckout plan page listing a self-serve Growth plan and an Enterprise plan with custom pricing. We could not match the Growth rate to a second source, so it is not quoted here; check that page for current India rates. Orchestration deals for large merchants are quoted on request and shaped by volume and the modules you take.
Two things to settle before the sales call:
- Unless you also use HyperPG, each gateway bills you its own MDR (Razorpay's standard rate, for example, is 2% plus GST), so whatever Juspay charges sits on top. The maths only works if better routing and fewer drop-offs save more than the platform fee.
- Ask what is bundled. Tokenisation, the offers engine, reconciliation and payouts appear as separate products on the site and may be priced separately.
The only free door is Hyperswitch Community Edition, covered below.
Juspay vs Razorpay, with Cashfree for reference
Razorpay and Cashfree are gateways that collect money and settle it to you. Juspay sits above gateways and splits traffic between them, although Razorpay and Cashfree both said in early 2025 that they would stop working through third-party orchestrators.
| Point | Juspay | Razorpay | Cashfree |
|---|---|---|---|
| Main job | Orchestration layer and checkout SDK (plus HyperPG) | Payment gateway | Payment gateway and payouts |
| Published fee | HyperCheckout plan page only; Enterprise on request | 2% + GST standard | 1.95% + GST standard |
| Setup and AMC | Not published | ₹0 setup, ₹0 AMC | Zero setup fee |
| Custom pricing | Enterprise plan | Offered above ₹5 lakh monthly revenue | Enterprise plan |
| Open-source sibling | Hyperswitch (Apache 2.0) | Not listed | Not listed |
If you collect under a few lakh rupees a month, Razorpay or Cashfree on its own is the obvious pick: visible pricing, quick onboarding, one dashboard. Juspay starts to pay off once you already hold two gateway contracts, run a large app, and have someone whose job is payment success.
Juspay payment orchestration review and use cases by business type
Going by the products and customer logos Juspay shows, the fit looks like this:
- Food delivery, quick commerce and logistics (Swiggy, Zepto, Porter): huge order counts, small tickets, heavy UPI. Routing and outage alerts protect dinner-rush conversion.
- Travel and airlines (IndiGo, MakeMyTrip): large tickets where one failed card attempt can lose a booking. There is a dedicated airline solution.
- D2C and fashion (Myntra, Lenskart, Giva): the offers engine and Juspay EMI choices on the payment page.
- Fintech (CRED, Groww, Navi on the UPI page): UPI stacks, tokenised cards, payouts.
- Insurance and subscriptions (Acko, Star Health): mandates, UPI Autopay and eNACH.
Hyperswitch, the open-source route to owning the stack
Hyperswitch is Juspay's open-source payments platform, written in Rust and released under the Apache 2.0 licence on GitHub (about 43,600 stars when checked). It runs as a separate brand at hyperswitch.io with three tiers: a free self-hosted Community Edition, a self-hosted Enterprise Edition with SLA support and an account manager, and Hyperswitch Cloud. No tier shows a price; the paid ones say Contact Us. Community includes the unified checkout SDK, intelligent routing, vault, secure authentication and payout orchestration across 90+ connectors, while reconciliation, revenue recovery and cost observability are paid add-ons on both self-hosted editions and bundled into Cloud. Support there means public Slack and GitHub discussions, and hosting plus PCI compliance are yours to carry.
For a funded startup with a payments engineer, that is a genuine alternative to a sales-led contract. For most others, PCI scope alone is a good reason to stay on a hosted product.
Security papers, RBI status and where data goes
Juspay lists PCI DSS 4.0.1, ISO 27001:2022 and SOC 2 Type 2 on its site, along with a vulnerability disclosure policy. Juspay tokenisation covers network tokens and a token vault, which is what lets saved cards keep working now that merchants cannot store raw card numbers. On regulation, Inc42 and GKToday reported in February 2024 that the RBI gave Juspay final authorisation as a payment aggregator. Juspay's own site lists HyperPG as its aggregator arm but does not reproduce the licence.
The global privacy notice (version 4.0, dated March 2026) says Juspay acts as both controller and processor; for merchant customers it handles identity, contact, financial (such as card and UPI details), transaction and usage data. It names a grievance officer in Bengaluru and a privacy@juspay.in address. It does not say where data is stored, so get Indian data residency written into the contract if your compliance team needs it.
Where Juspay is hard work for a small team
- Rates appear on only one HyperCheckout plan page, the core product has no free tier, and Enterprise deals run through sales.
- Routing only earns its keep with several gateway contracts, which means several KYC rounds and several settlement reports to reconcile.
- We found no public status page; outage data lives inside the product.
- Docs are wide but split by product and region (India, SEA, EU, global), so finding the right version takes time.
- Most headline numbers (300M+ daily transactions, up to 10% uplift, 99.999% uptime) come from Juspay itself.
A sensible first week in the Juspay sandbox
Once sales has issued a merchant ID, the build order is fairly predictable:
- Get sandbox keys. The API base is sandbox.juspay.in (production is api.juspay.in), and requests carry your API key as the Basic auth username plus an x-merchantid header.
- Create orders and sessions from your server, never from the app. The client SDK receives a client auth token that lasts 15 minutes, per the API reference.
- Ship HyperCheckout on one platform first, usually Android, then add iOS or your cross-platform wrapper.
- Switch on cards, Juspay netbanking, UPI intent and EMI in the dashboard, then run failure cases using the published test resources.
- Connect a second gateway and set a simple split before trusting any routing promise. Compare a few weeks of success rates by method.

Juspay FAQ
What is Juspay?
Juspay is a Bengaluru-based payments technology company, founded in 2012, that sells checkout SDKs, payment orchestration, UPI stacks and tokenisation to large merchants and banks. Its HyperCheckout product sits in front of your gateways and routes each payment. The company says it handles 300 million+ transactions a day.
How much does Juspay charge?
Its general pricing URL returns a 404, but a separate HyperCheckout pricing page lists a Growth plan and a custom-priced Enterprise plan, so check that page for current India rates. Bigger orchestration deals are negotiated by volume and modules. Your gateways still charge their own MDR, so Juspay's fee sits on top unless you also use its HyperPG aggregator. Hyperswitch Community Edition is free to self-host, though hosting and compliance costs are yours.
Is Juspay a payment gateway or an orchestrator?
Mainly an orchestrator: it connects to 300+ gateways and aggregators (its figure) and decides which one handles each payment. It also runs HyperPG, a payment aggregator business, and Inc42 and GKToday reported in February 2024 that the RBI gave Juspay final PA authorisation. So it can be both, depending on what you buy.
How does Juspay smart routing work?
You connect two or more payment processors and set rules, and Juspay's Dynamic Routing sends each payment to the best-performing option within those rules. Its docs say the feature needs more than one processor. Juspay claims success rates can rise by up to 10%, which is a vendor figure.
Is Juspay safe?
Juspay lists PCI DSS 4.0.1, ISO 27001:2022 and SOC 2 Type 2 on its website and supports network tokenisation, so card numbers are not stored in raw form. It has a published privacy notice with a named grievance officer. Its RBI payment aggregator authorisation was reported by Indian media in February 2024.
Juspay vs Razorpay vs Cashfree: which should I choose?
Razorpay (2% + GST standard) and Cashfree (1.95% + GST standard) are gateways with published prices and online onboarding. Juspay is a routing layer above gateways, but Razorpay and Cashfree both said in January 2025 that they would stop integrating through third-party orchestrators, so confirm which processors it can reach for you. Smaller merchants should start with a gateway and consider Juspay once they run several.
Can small businesses use Juspay in India?
Technically yes, since the HyperCheckout page has a sign-up button, but the product and sales process are built for enterprises (Juspay says 500+ use it). Routing only helps when you have more than one gateway contract. A small store usually gets more value from Razorpay, Cashfree or PayU directly.
What are the best Juspay alternatives?
Hyperswitch, Juspay's own open-source platform under Apache 2.0, suits teams that want to self-host orchestration. If you only need one gateway, Razorpay, Cashfree and PayU publish their rates and onboard online. The right choice depends on whether you need routing across providers or simply a reliable checkout.
How does Juspay improve payment success rate?
It routes each payment to the best-performing gateway within your rules, retries failed attempts through another route, flags bank or UPI outages at checkout, and offers CVV-less payments on tokenised cards. Juspay claims up to a 10% lift in success rates. Actual gains depend on how unreliable your current gateway mix is.
Who should use Juspay?
High-volume apps and websites in food delivery, travel, D2C retail, fintech and insurance, especially those already working with two or more gateways. Banks and fintech apps that need UPI stacks are another fit. Early-stage businesses with modest volumes are better served by a single gateway.
