What is Razorpay?
Razorpay is one of India's most widely used payment gateways. It lets businesses accept payments through UPI, debit and credit cards, net banking, wallets and EMI options using a single integration, and adds products for subscriptions, payment links, invoices, payouts and business banking.
For developers
Razorpay is popular with developers because of its clear documentation, test mode and official SDKs for languages such as PHP, Node.js, Python and Java. A typical web integration creates an order on the server, opens Razorpay Checkout in the browser and verifies the payment signature on the server, with webhooks to confirm status. Ready plugins exist for WooCommerce, Shopify and other platforms, so many sites can go live without custom code.
For non-technical businesses
Payment Links and Payment Pages let you collect money without building a website, which is useful for small clients, freelancers and event registrations. The dashboard shows settlements, refunds and disputes in one place.
Pricing
Razorpay uses per-transaction pricing with no setup fee on the standard plan. Domestic cards, UPI, net banking and wallets have a standard percentage fee, while international cards and some premium card types cost more; GST is charged on the fees. Large businesses can negotiate custom rates.
Things to know
Onboarding requires KYC documents and approval before you can accept live payments. Many users report that support response times can be slow when an account or settlement issue comes up. As with any gateway, plan your webhook handling carefully.
Verdict for buyers
For most Indian businesses and agencies building websites, Razorpay is a reliable default choice with a strong developer experience.
