Our verdict

4.4out of 5

Google Workspace is the easiest way for a small Indian team to get branded email, shared files and video calls under one login. Business Starter at $7 per user is enough for email-first teams, while Business Standard is the better buy if you record meetings or want Gemini across Docs and Drive. Teams that need desktop Office or maximum storage per rupee should price Microsoft 365 first.

What is Google Workspace?

Google Workspace is Google's paid bundle of Gmail on your own domain, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Calendar, Meet and Chat, run from one admin console. If you are searching for the google workspace business starter price in india, in brief, Google's India pricing page lists every plan in US dollars, Starter is $7 per user per month on an annual plan, and Indian accounts can still be billed in rupees. This review covers what each tier includes, how INR billing and UPI work, and when a cheaper option makes more sense.

What Google Workspace is and who it suits

Think of it as the business version of the free Google account you already use. The difference is control. Mail comes from you@yourcompany.in instead of a gmail.com address, files belong to the company rather than to whoever created them, and an administrator can add or remove staff, reset passwords and enforce security rules.

The suite has a long history. It launched in 2006 as Google Apps for Your Domain, became G Suite in 2016 and took its current name in October 2020. The Business editions are capped at 300 users, according to Google's admin help, so they fit startups, agencies, consultancies, clinics and most small and mid-sized firms. Larger companies move to Enterprise, which has no minimum or maximum seat count.

It suits teams that already live in a browser, share documents constantly and want one login for everything. It suits a firm that runs on Excel macros and Outlook rules less well.

Google Workspace pricing plans per user

Google charges per user, per month. Google's Business editions help page gives two sets of prices: the annual (fixed-term) plan and the Flexible plan, which you can cancel any time but which costs about 20% more.

PlanAnnual planFlexible planPooled storage per userMeet participants
Business Starter$7$8.4030 GB100
Business Standard$14$16.802 TB150
Business Plus$22$26.405 TB500
EnterpriseContact salesContact sales5 TB, more on request1,000

Prices exclude tax. Storage is also granted in stages, which catches some new customers out. You get part of the allowance at purchase and the full limit only after your account has paid $30 in total, as the help page explains.

What changes as you go up? Starter gives you custom email, 30 GB, video calls for 100 people, Gemini in Gmail and the standalone Gemini app. Business Standard adds 2 TB, meeting recordings with noise cancellation, appointment booking pages, eSignature in Docs and PDFs, and Gemini in Docs, Meet and other apps with expanded access. Plus brings Google Vault for retention and eDiscovery, advanced endpoint management (remote wipe, stronger password rules, Android work profiles) and attendance tracking in meetings.

The google workspace business starter price in india and INR billing

Google does not publish a rupee price list on its pricing page. Visit workspace.google.com from India and you still see dollars. That said, rupee billing is real. Google's "payment options in my country" page lists Indian Rupees and US Dollars as the currencies for India, with credit card, debit card, NetBanking and UPI as payment methods. Debit card and NetBanking work only for manual payments.

If you signed up in dollars, the admin help article on local billing currency says you can switch to INR. Flexible customers, and annual customers billed monthly, can switch at any time; annual customers billed yearly can switch only on their renewal date. There is no way back to USD afterwards, and annual plan customers are charged immediately for the rest of their commitment.

UPI has its own conditions. According to Google's help page, it is open to qualified organisations with a billing address and bank account in India, paying in INR, and you must first make a ₹500 prepayment. UPI cannot be used to buy a new domain.

On tax, Google's billing help says accounts may be charged GST depending on location, and the tax shows as a separate line on your invoice. You can add your tax ID in the payment settings if you pay by automatic charge, or through support if you pay by invoice. Budget for GST on top of the listed price.

Google Workspace custom email domain setup

The setup flow is simpler than it used to be, but DNS still trips people up. Here is the order that works:

  • Buy or bring a domain. You can buy one during signup or use one you already own at GoDaddy, Hostinger or any registrar.
  • Verify ownership. Google gives you a TXT record to add at your registrar. Gmail cannot be activated until this step passes.
  • Add the MX record. Current accounts need a single MX value, smtp.google.com, with priority 1. Delete every other MX record, including old ones from your hosting company.
  • Activate Gmail. In the admin console, go to Account, then Domains, then Manage domains, and click Activate Gmail.
  • Turn on 2-step verification. Admins can enforce it for everyone, with a new-user enrolment window of 1 day to 6 months.

If mail is not arriving after you set up a Gmail custom domain, check three things. First, look for leftover MX records from your old host. Second, see whether your registrar wants a trailing full stop (smtp.google.com.). Third, give it time, since Google says DNS changes can take up to 72 hours. The Dig tool in Google Admin Toolbox shows what your domain is actually publishing, which settles most arguments with a registrar's support desk.

Key features in daily use

Gmail is the anchor, with Google's spam filtering and the same interface your team already knows. Google Meet handles calls up to 24 hours on paid plans, and Google Chat covers internal messaging with spaces for each project or client. Since September 2024, shared drives are available even on Starter, so project files stay put when an employee leaves, although Starter admins get fewer controls over them.

Gemini for Workspace is now baked into the plans rather than sold as a separate add-on. On Starter you get Gemini in Gmail plus the Gemini chat app. Standard and above extend it to Docs, Meet and other apps, with wider access to models and features.

Security, privacy and data use

Google's AI privacy page states that Workspace customer data is not reviewed by humans or used to train generative AI models outside your domain without permission. That applies to prompts you give Gemini inside Gmail or Docs. The same page lists certifications such as ISO 42001 and FedRAMP High for Gemini.

For day-to-day protection, the admin console lets you enforce 2-step verification, including security-key-only sign-in with passkey support. Basic mobile device management is included on Starter and Standard. Retention and legal hold through Vault start at Business Plus, which matters if you work in a regulated field or expect disputes. Google also runs a public status dashboard for every Workspace service.

Google Workspace vs Microsoft 365

Microsoft is the obvious rival, and it does publish rupee prices. On Microsoft's India comparison page, Business Basic is ₹170 per user per month, Business Standard with Copilot is ₹1,955 and Business Premium with Copilot is ₹2,660, all paid yearly with GST extra and capped at 300 users.

On paper, Microsoft's Basic plan gives far more storage for less money. Google wins on collaboration: several people editing one Sheet at once feels natural, and the admin console is easier for a non-IT founder. Pick Microsoft if your clients send complex Excel files or your accountant insists on desktop Office. Pick Google if your team works in the browser and shares files all day.

Google Workspace free alternative for small business

Is there a free Google Workspace plan? Sort of. Essentials Starter costs nothing, allows up to 100 users per team account and gives 15 GB of Drive per person, with Docs, Sheets, Meet and Chat. It does not include Gmail, so you cannot use it for business email.

For free email on your own domain, Zoho Mail's Forever Free plan covers one domain, up to 5 users and 5 GB per user. It leaves out IMAP, POP and ActiveSync, so you are tied to Zoho's web and mobile apps, and Zoho says it is offered only in select data centres. Zoho's paid Workplace Standard and Professional plans add 30 GB and 100 GB of mail storage per user. Zoho's India pricing pages did not display rupee figures when we checked in October 2026, so confirm current prices on zoho.com before you compare.

Limitations to weigh before paying

  • No published INR prices, so your rupee bill depends on Google's conversion and GST.
  • Starter's 30 GB fills quickly once you add large attachments and Drive files.
  • Meeting recordings and Gemini in Docs and Sheets need Standard or higher.
  • The Flexible plan costs about 20% more than the annual price.
  • Vault and advanced device controls are locked to Plus and Enterprise.

Who should pick Business Standard

Choose Business Standard if you record client calls, run shared folders that will outgrow 30 GB, or want Gemini to draft documents and summarise meetings. For most agencies and consultancies that share large client files, this is the sensible default. Solo founders who only need branded email can start on Starter and upgrade later from the admin console.

How to get started

Begin the 14-day free trial from workspace.google.com, add your domain and verify it. Create accounts for two or three colleagues and test mail, calendar invites and a Meet call before migrating everyone. Once mail flows correctly, set billing to INR if you prefer rupees, add your GSTIN in payment settings and choose between annual and Flexible billing.

Google Workspace FAQ

What is Google Workspace?

Google Workspace is Google's paid suite for businesses, combining Gmail on your own domain with Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Calendar, Meet and Chat. An admin console lets a company manage users, security and billing in one place. It was called G Suite until October 2020.

How much does Google Workspace cost per user in India?

Google lists prices in US dollars even on its India pricing page: Business Starter is $7, Business Standard $14 and Business Plus $22 per user per month on an annual plan. Flexible monthly plans cost $8.40, $16.80 and $26.40. Prices exclude tax, so GST is added on top, and Indian accounts can be billed in rupees.

Is there a free Google Workspace plan?

Essentials Starter is free for up to 100 users per team account, with 15 GB of Drive per person plus Docs, Sheets, Meet and Chat. It does not include Gmail, so you cannot run business email on it. Paid Business plans come with a 14-day free trial.

How do I set up business email with Google Workspace?

Sign up, add your domain and verify it with the TXT record Google provides. Then add one MX record, smtp.google.com with priority 1, remove all other MX records, and click Activate Gmail under Account, Domains, Manage domains in the admin console. DNS changes can take up to 72 hours.

Is Google Workspace secure for business data?

Admins can enforce 2-step verification, including security-key-only sign-in, and manage mobile devices from the admin console. Google's AI privacy page says Workspace data is not reviewed by humans or used to train generative AI models outside your domain without permission. Retention and eDiscovery through Google Vault need Business Plus or Enterprise.

Google Workspace vs Microsoft 365: which is better for small teams?

Microsoft 365 Business Basic costs ₹170 per user per month in India (yearly, GST extra) and includes a 100 GB mailbox and 1 TB OneDrive, which is more storage than Google's Starter. Google is easier to administer and better for real-time co-editing in the browser. Teams that rely on desktop Excel and Outlook usually prefer Microsoft.

Can I pay for Google Workspace in INR with UPI?

Yes, if you qualify. Google's help says organisations with a billing address and bank account in India can pay in INR by UPI after a ₹500 prepayment. Accounts set up in US dollars can switch to rupees, though there is no switching back to dollars afterwards.

What are the best Google Workspace alternatives?

Microsoft 365 Business is the main paid rival and publishes rupee prices, starting at ₹170 per user per month for Business Basic. Zoho Workplace is the main Indian option, and Zoho Mail's Forever Free plan offers custom domain email for up to 5 users with 5 GB each. Zoho's free plan does not support IMAP, POP or ActiveSync.

How do I fix Google Workspace MX records that are not working?

First delete any leftover MX records from your old host, because extra records break delivery. Check the value is smtp.google.com with priority 1, and add a trailing full stop if your registrar requires it. Wait up to 72 hours, then use the Dig tool in Google Admin Toolbox to see what your domain is publishing.

Who should use Google Workspace Business Standard?

Business Standard suits teams that record meetings, need more than 30 GB per user, or want Gemini in Docs, Meet and other apps. It gives 2 TB of pooled storage per user, 150-person calls and shared drives. It costs $14 per user per month on an annual plan or $16.80 on Flexible.
