Our verdict

3.9out of 5

Frase is now an operator, not just an editor: it researches, writes, scores and publishes, and Professional at $103 a month (yearly) is fair value for small teams publishing a few dozen posts a month. Use the 7-day trial on a real topic cluster first, because fees are non-refundable. Writers who only want draft grading, or agencies needing white-label reports, should compare Surfer or Clearscope.

What is Frase?

Frase no longer sells the Solo, Basic and Team plans that most older reviews still quote. After its relaunch as an agent-led SEO and GEO platform, the entry tier costs $49 a month (or $39 a month billed yearly) and covers 10 finished articles, so this Frase SEO content tool pricing and review works only from the current pricing page and the new docs at docs.frase.io, not from legacy numbers.

Who gets real value from Frase now

Frase began as a research-and-brief tool for writers. Today it behaves more like a small content operations desk. You add your site, it crawls the pages, drafts a brand profile and lists likely competitors. From there a built-in assistant, the Frase AI agent, can research a keyword, build a brief, write the article, score it and push it to WordPress, Webflow, Sanity, Wix or Frase's own hosted blog.

That shape suits three kinds of buyers. Solo founders who publish a few posts a month and have no writer. In-house marketers at SaaS or D2C brands who need a steady blog plus visibility in ChatGPT and Google's AI answers. And small agencies running five to ten client sites.

Frase pricing plans: Starter, Professional, Scale and Enterprise

According to frase.io/pricing, there are three self-serve tiers plus a custom Enterprise deal. Yearly billing takes 20% off the monthly rate. All prices are in US dollars; there is no rupee price list, so Indian cards are charged in USD and your bank's forex markup applies.

PlanMonthly billingYearly billingSeats / sitesArticles and audit pages per month
Starter$49/mo$39/mo1 seat, 1 site10 articles, 50 audit pages
Professional$129/mo$103/mo3 seats, 5 sites40 articles, 250 audit pages
Scale$299/mo$239/mo5 seats, up to 10 domains100 articles, 1,000 audit pages
EnterpriseCustomCustomCustomCustom limits, custom API access

Starter already includes SEO and GEO scores, AI Visibility tracking on ChatGPT and Google AI, and Content Guard watching 10 pages for ranking decay. Professional adds a content calendar, internal linking suggestions, repurposing into social posts, AI crawler monitoring and Perplexity tracking. Scale brings Claude and Gemini into the visibility reports, exportable client reports and the ability to run the agent across every site. White-label reports, a branded client portal, SSO/SAML and an SLA sit only in Enterprise.

Article caps, audit pages and the pay-as-you-go switch

The article count is the number that decides your plan. Starter simply stops when you hit 10 articles; it never bills overages. On Professional and Scale you can switch on pay-as-you-go, which is off by default. Extra usage then costs $5 per article, $0.50 per audit page and $0.25 per AI prompt on Professional, falling to $4, $0.40 and $0.20 on Scale, billed at the end of the cycle. Extra seats are $29 a month each.

Hosting is a separate line. Frase CMS is free on every plan up to 100,000 page views and 25 GB of bandwidth, with a "Powered by Frase" badge. Removing the badge and serving from a subdirectory such as yoursite.com/blog needs the $19 Basic tier, and the $99 Pro tier lifts the cap to 1 million views.

Is there a free way in? The 7-day trial and its caps

No free plan exists. What you get is a 7-day trial with no card required, carrying Professional's feature set but capped at 5 articles, 50 audit pages, 25 AI prompts and 3 seats. The Frase AI agent can publish during the trial too. Treat it as a workflow test, not a traffic test. One more thing to know before paying: the terms of service say all fees are final and no refunds are given.

How the Frase content brief generator builds an outline

Brief building is still the part long-time users came for. You enter a topic and pick a target language and country for that run. Frase then performs SERP research on the pages already ranking: their headings, depth, word counts and the subjects they cover. It also pulls questions from People Also Ask, forums and answer engine results, expands related keywords and flags gaps that rival pages leave open, ranked by importance.

The output is a structured content brief with headings, sections, keywords and sources to cite. You can pin or edit items before passing it to a writer or to the agent. In the migrated product, legacy "Outlines" became briefs, and the migration guide says brief creation gets roughly double your plan's article credit limit.

Topic score is gone: what the SEO, GEO and EEAT scores measure

Older guides talk about the Frase topic score, a single number that compared your draft's topic coverage with the top results. The current docs ("Content Scores Explained") list three different scores instead, each on a 0 to 100 scale with red, yellow and green bands:

  • SEO score: keyword placement (especially in headings), heading hierarchy, thin sections and links. Frase suggests 70 to 85 or higher as solid.
  • GEO score: how easily ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews can lift and cite your text, judged on direct answers, data, lists, tables and question coverage.
  • EEAT score: trust and expertise signals such as author bio, credentials and citations.

The docs advise fixing whichever score lags most and not chasing 100. If you relied on topic score benchmarks in the old editor, expect to recalibrate.

Does the Frase agent write full articles?

Yes. The docs describe the agent generating briefs and complete articles optimised for search and AI platforms, applying SEO and GEO fixes to existing posts, detecting keyword cannibalisation and building topic clusters. Up to 10 articles or research sessions can run in the background while you close the panel. Each finished piece counts against your monthly article allowance, so a Starter user publishing three posts a week runs dry before the month is out.

Frase also works as an AI article writer outside its own interface. The same agent is available over MCP in Claude and Cursor, and connectors exist for Google Docs, Notion, Slack, Linear and GitHub. A separate Frase Answers widget, free on all plans, sits on your site as a chat box and logs the questions visitors ask so you can write for them. It is not a classic FAQ generator, but the GEO score does push you to add FAQ blocks and direct answers.

Search Console data turns Frase into a refresh tool

The Google Search Console integration is optional, but it changes what Frase can do. With it connected, Frase shows Content Opportunities (pages sitting just outside the top three, queries with impressions but no clicks, posts due for a refresh), SEO Analytics trend charts and Content Guard alerts when a live page loses traffic. Without it, the docs say Frase can still research and write, just blind to how published pages perform. Agencies need Owner-level access to each client's property. Connecting GA4 as well lets AI Visibility show referral visits from AI answers.

Frase vs Surfer SEO for a small content team

Surfer's pricing page lists Discovery at $49 a month billed yearly with 120 documents and one seat, and Standard at $99 a month billed yearly with 360 documents, 25 tracked AI prompts and three seats. Monthly prices are not shown there. Frase Starter at $39 yearly is cheaper but caps you at 10 articles, because each article is a finished, agent-written piece rather than an editor document.

So the choice comes down to who writes. If people on your team draft every post and want a live content optimization editor with many documents, Surfer's allowance goes further. If you want research, writing, publishing and decay monitoring handled from one chat window, Frase does more per seat. Frase vs Surfer SEO is less about score accuracy and more about whether you are buying an editor or an operator.

Frase vs Clearscope: agent output against editor-led grading

Clearscope starts at $129 a month for Essentials with unlimited seats and a 14-day trial, and Business costs $399 a month. Its plans are sized by tracked pages, topic explorations and drafts, with grading against search data at the core. Frase Professional at the same $129 monthly price gives you three seats, five sites and 40 agent-written articles, plus AI visibility tracking and CMS publishing. Large writing teams may still prefer Clearscope's unlimited seats.

Data handling, ownership and the no-refund clause

Frase's privacy policy (updated 20 September 2026) states that Frase is wholly owned by Copysmith AI, Inc. of Birmingham, Alabama, and that customer data is not used to train generalised AI models. Search Console and Analytics access is read-only, and Google Docs access is limited to files you pick. Connected data may go to unnamed AI model providers when you generate content, and those providers may not train on it. The terms say customer data stays yours but do not spell out ownership of generated output, and they allow Frase to build anonymised industry benchmarks unless you opt out by emailing support. No data region is stated, which matters for agencies with EU or Indian enterprise clients asking about storage location.

Where Frase falls short for Indian buyers and agencies

  • USD-only billing and no refunds mean an annual plan is a real commitment.
  • White-label reports and client portals need Enterprise, so agencies on Scale hand clients Frase-branded exports.
  • The platform was rebuilt recently, and many tutorials and YouTube walkthroughs describe legacy screens that no longer exist.
  • Neither the pricing nor the About page links to a status page, and help runs through support@frase.io; a dedicated account manager comes only with Enterprise.
  • Competitor analysis covers ranking pages, not backlink-grade keyword databases, so you will still want a suite like Ubersuggest or Semrush for keyword volumes at scale.

Frase SEO content tool pricing and review: is it worth paying for?

For a founder or two-person marketing team publishing 8 to 30 posts a month, Professional at $103 a month (yearly) is fair value: briefs, writing, scoring, publishing and AI visibility in one place, with Search Console data driving refreshes. Starter makes sense only if 10 articles a month truly covers you. Writers who want an editor rather than an operator, and agencies needing white-label output, should look at alternatives such as Surfer, Clearscope or general writers like Writesonic.

Spending the 7-day trial on one real topic cluster

Connect Search Console on day one so Content Opportunities has data. Pick one money topic and three supporting topics, run research on each and compare the briefs against what you would have written. Let the agent draft two articles, check the SEO and GEO scores, then edit one by hand and see how much the scores move. By day seven you will know whether 10 or 40 articles a month fits your rhythm.

Frase FAQ

What is Frase.io?

Frase is an SEO and GEO content platform owned by Copysmith AI, Inc. It researches the pages ranking for a topic, builds a content brief, writes and scores articles, and publishes them to WordPress, Webflow, Sanity, Wix or its own hosted blog. It also tracks how often your brand appears in AI answers from ChatGPT and Google AI.

Is Frase free?

No. Frase has no free plan. It offers a 7-day free trial with no card required, using Professional features but capped at 5 articles, 50 audit pages, 25 AI prompts and 3 seats. The Frase Answers site widget and the free Frase CMS hosting tier come with every paid plan.

How much does Frase cost?

Per the official pricing page, Starter is $49 a month or $39 a month billed yearly, Professional is $129 or $103, and Scale is $299 or $239. Enterprise is custom. Prices are in USD, there is no INR price list, and the terms state that fees are non-refundable.

How do you create a content brief in Frase?

Enter a topic, choose the target language and country, and run SEO research. Frase analyses the ranking pages, collects People Also Ask and forum questions, and returns an outline with headings, keywords and sources. You can pin or edit items, then hand the brief to a writer or ask the Frase agent to draft the article.

Frase vs Surfer SEO: which is better?

It depends on who writes. Surfer's Discovery plan ($49 a month billed yearly) gives 120 documents for a human-led editor workflow, while Frase Starter ($39 yearly) gives 10 agent-written articles plus publishing and decay alerts. Teams that write in-house usually get more from Surfer; teams that want research-to-publish automation get more from Frase.

Does Frase write full articles?

Yes. The Frase agent writes complete articles from a brief, scores them for SEO, GEO and EEAT, and can send them to your CMS as drafts. Each article counts against your monthly allowance of 10, 40 or 100 depending on the plan, with paid overages available on Professional and Scale.

Is Frase worth it?

For small teams publishing roughly 8 to 30 posts a month, Professional at $103 a month on yearly billing is reasonable value because it combines research, writing, publishing and AI visibility tracking. It is harder to justify if you only need a draft-grading editor or white-label agency reports, which need Enterprise.

What is the Frase topic score?

Topic score was the single coverage score in Frase's legacy editor. The current platform replaced it with three 0 to 100 scores: SEO, GEO and EEAT. Frase's docs suggest an SEO score of 70 to 85 or higher and advise fixing whichever score lags most.

What are the best Frase alternatives?

Surfer SEO and Clearscope are the closest alternatives for content optimisation, with Clearscope starting at $129 a month and Surfer at $49 a month billed yearly. General AI writers such as Writesonic or Copy.ai are another route if you mostly need drafts. For keyword volumes and backlinks, pair any of them with an SEO suite like Semrush or Ubersuggest.

Who should use Frase?

Frase fits solo founders without a writer, in-house marketers at SaaS or D2C brands, and small agencies managing up to 10 sites on the Scale plan. It is less suited to writers who only want an editor to grade their own drafts, and to agencies that need white-label client reports below Enterprise pricing.
