What is Vyapar?

More than 1 crore Android installs and a desktop Platinum plan at ₹9,999 a year (plus GST) frame most conversations about Vyapar. This review sets out Vyapar billing software price and features from the official plan cards, then checks where the free mobile app stops, how GST e-invoicing works, and whether Tally or Zoho Books is the better buy for your shop.

Who opens Vyapar on a shop counter, and why

Picture a kirana owner in Indore who wants a GST bill on WhatsApp before the customer leaves, or a hardware distributor who needs to know which party still owes ₹40,000 from last month. That is the buyer Vyapar is built around. It comes from Simply Vyapar Apps Pvt. Ltd., a Bengaluru company started by Sumit Agarwal, with Shubham Agrawal among its co-founders. WestBridge Capital led its 2022 funding round, and IndiaMART is also an investor.

The company claims more than 1.5 crore businesses on its homepage and says the app works in 9+ Indian languages (Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Gujarati, Bengali and Kannada are among those named). It runs on Android, iOS, Windows and Mac, and the core habit it encourages is simple: bill on the phone or PC, keep stock and dues updated, and send the invoice as a PDF on WhatsApp.

It is billing and stock software first and an accounting package second. Traders, retailers, pharmacies, small manufacturers and service shops get the most from it. A chartered accountant running full books for twenty clients will want something heavier.

Vyapar billing software price and features, plan by plan

Vyapar's main pricing page loads its prices through scripts, so the figures below come from the same plan cards embedded on its official product pages in October 2026. Desktop cards say "billed annually + GST@18%". Crossed-out list prices and promotional banners are left out; only the regular prices appear here.

Each paid plan also has a 3-year option with a listed saving: ₹2,798 on desktop Silver, ₹3,198 on Gold, ₹7,198 on Retail Pro and ₹7,998 on Platinum, or ₹598, ₹698 and ₹998 on the mobile tiers. Licences do not renew on their own; the terms say you renew manually, and a full refund is available if you ask within 7 days on purchases of one year or more.

One trap: the iPhone app sells its own in-app packs (Gold Mobile, Gold Combo and others) at Apple prices that do not match the website, so compare before you tap buy inside iOS.

Vyapar app free version limits: what ₹0 actually buys

The free mobile plan is a real working tool, not a demo. You can create invoices and purchase bills, log expenses, see GSTR reports and keep an audit trail for one firm. For a single-outlet shop issuing B2C bills this may be enough for months.

The walls appear quickly once you grow. Multi-device sync and WhatsApp integration start at Silver, so a second phone at the counter or a laptop at home means paying. On the desktop cards, e-way bills, e-invoices and low stock alerts sit in Gold. Barcode generation and the POS screen need Retail Pro on desktop. There is no free desktop edition at all, only a 7-day trial that, according to the FAQ, opens every premium feature while it lasts. An older features post on Vyapar's blog still says 15 days, but the FAQ and the product pages now say 7.

Running Vyapar GST billing software for e-invoices and e-way bills

Vyapar works as a GST invoice generator out of the box: add your GSTIN, set tax rates on items, and the bill splits CGST, SGST or IGST based on the party's state. Composition dealers get the right closing stock treatment too, which the FAQ explains separately.

A first GST invoice takes about five steps. Add the party with its GSTIN and state, add items with HSN code and rate, open a new sale, pick the party and items, then save and share. The invoice can go out as a PDF, through WhatsApp or SMS, or to a printer.

For businesses above the e-invoicing threshold, Vyapar's official pages say eligible GST-registered users can generate the IRN and QR code from supported workflows, and the e-way bill can be raised right after the invoice. The desktop plan cards place both in Gold and above; the mobile cards do not say which tier includes them. Check that your turnover actually requires e-invoicing before paying for Gold only for this.

Counter work: Vyapar POS, barcodes and thermal printers

Retail Pro is the plan for busy counters. It adds Vyapar POS with payments, links to weighing scales, reads purchase bills through OCR, imports items using barcodes and prints barcode labels for loose stock. Barcode scanning works with USB or Bluetooth scanners, so a cheap handheld gun will do.

Thermal printer billing supports 2-inch, 3-inch and 4-inch rolls over Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or cable, while A4 and A5 work for regular printers. Vyapar lists 12 invoice themes for the regular format.

Inventory management covers item categories, stock levels, low stock alerts (Gold and up) and purchase tracking. The party ledger, which Vyapar calls a party statement, shows every sale, payment and return for one customer or supplier, and automatic payment reminders can be set to nudge late payers. WhatsApp invoice sharing is the feature most shop owners mention first, and it is the reason many upgrade from free to Silver.

Offline by default: backups, sync and moving to a new phone

Data lives on your device unless you turn on cloud sync. Vyapar says billing continues without internet on Windows and Android and syncs when the connection returns. That suits markets with patchy signal, but it also means a lost phone without a backup is lost data.

Turn on auto backup to Google Drive on day one; the app also offers backup to phone storage and to email. To restore on a new phone, install the app, open the backup and restore section, and pick the Google Drive or local file you saved. If the licence asks to be bought again after a device change, the FAQ's fix is to open Vyapar Premium, choose "Already have a license?", log in and move the licence to the new device ID.

The fine print is worth reading. The terms say backups are the user's responsibility and that Vyapar holds "zero responsibility" for data leaks. The privacy policy allows sharing with partners, including outside India, and mentions sponsored content. The Play Store safety section says data is encrypted in transit and that you can request deletion. Your invoices stay yours to use commercially, but treat Vyapar as the place you bill, and keep your own copies.

Vyapar vs Tally for a shop whose CA files in Tally

Many Indian CAs still work in TallyPrime, so this comparison often decides the purchase. TallyPrime Silver costs ₹22,500 plus GST as a lifetime licence or ₹750 a month on rental, and it is stronger on full accounting, audit and multi-company books. Vyapar is cheaper, runs on a phone and needs far less training for counter staff.

The bridge between them is the Vyapar Tally export, found under Utilities as "import to Tally". On the web plan cards it belongs to Platinum, so a shop that bills in Vyapar and hands books to a Tally-using CA should budget ₹9,999 a year on desktop or ₹2,099 on mobile.

Vyapar vs Zoho Books when you want cloud access

Zoho Books is a browser-first accounting tool with a free plan for businesses with yearly revenue up to ₹25 lakh, and its Standard plan costs ₹749 a month billed yearly. It is better for bank feeds, accountant collaboration in the cloud and proper double-entry reporting.

Vyapar wins on offline billing, thermal printing and how fast a shopkeeper can learn it. If your work happens at a counter, Vyapar desktop or mobile fits. If it happens in a spreadsheet with your CA, Zoho Books is the more natural home.

myBillBook, BUSY and other Vyapar alternatives worth pricing

• myBillBook (by FloBiz): the closest mobile-first rival for GST billing and stock, aimed at the same small traders.
• BUSY: desktop accounting with a free BUSY Express billing edition and BUSY Standard at ₹16,500 lifetime, better for inventory-heavy distributors.
• TallyPrime: the default for CAs and larger firms that need full books.
• Zoho Books: cloud accounting with a genuine free plan for small revenue.

Where Vyapar falls short for growing businesses

Plans are counted in firms, not users, and the plan cards never state a seat limit, so ask sales before adding staff. Play Store reviewers rate the Android app 4.8 from roughly 1.9 lakh reviews, yet recurring complaints include "Something went wrong" errors and stock or split-payment mismatches in reports. The iOS app sits much lower, at 3.5 from about 1,100 ratings. There is no public status page, support runs 9 am to 9 pm Monday to Saturday (10 am to 7 pm Sunday), and priority support is reserved for Platinum.

A sensible first week with Vyapar

• Install the free Android app and bill real customers for a few days before paying.
• Switch on Google Drive auto backup before entering opening stock.
• Start the 7-day trial only when you are ready to test e-way bills, sync and POS on real orders.
• Ask your CA whether they need the Tally export; that answer decides Silver versus Platinum.
• Buy from the website, not inside the iPhone app, and compare 1-year against 3-year totals.
